AnonyMouse_10338
I am going to be teaching in our school's pre-school in September and have noticed toys such as Barbie and My Little Ponys. Do other settings have these? Thanks.
AnonyMouse_19782
not as continuous provision, but as interests show, particularly I would say My Little Pony more than Barbie
AnonyMouse_44476
We have some Barbies and cars, house etc that aren't out all the time but we do get out every now and then depending on the children. We have had loads of children bringing in my little pony lately and they have been playing really well with them creating lovely games, we don't have any here though but have been thinking about getting some x
Guest
I've just sold my box of My Little Ponies this morning funnily enough (I am closing down) and was saying to the lady who bought them how popular they seem to be, esp with the boys who have been making very elaborate pens/ stables for them with wooden bricks in the mud kitchen and how lucky it is that they clean up really well in the dishwasher afterwards! AnonyMouse_19762
Eeeew - i would never, that's never allow a Barbie into my setting! A 'My Little Pony' or three might just canter in though! :1b
AnonyMouse_16365
Absolutely no Barbies. We do have the Ponies. They seem to be most popular in the water tray.
AnonyMouse_30128
We have quite a few religious families including several muslims. I do not consider Barbies to be appropriate play material for this age group in a pre-school . Some of my families would be offended by the overt sexuality of dolls like these. ...well you asked for an opinion!
AnonyMouse_44476
I totally agree finleysmaid although our Barbies are 'fake' Barbies as such so they are the same size but haven't got the big boobs and tiny waist :-) they love dressing and undressing and we have a lot of weddings!!!! personally I think it's just like a dolls house type idea but bigger! AnonyMouse_1469
NO NO NO to both of them.................bloomin' awful things that i wouldn't give house room to.
AnonyMouse_8282
We have Barbies, sindy, ponies, wrestlers and action men..... ::1a Not out as continuous provision though just occasionally - the wrestlers were the best for our last cohort - lots of next steps in many areas progressed with these for many of our boys.
Guest
We have Barbies in our Afterschool sessions when required and we do have a drawer of little ponies in nursery. The creative and imaginative play with the ponies has been lovely to see. I also have one little boy and the ponies are his number one favourite toy so who am I to say No to his interests?!! AnonyMouse_11396
We have a huge chest full of power rangers, action men, barbies, sindys, ponies, Woody, Jesse, Buzz light year. These are not out as continous provision, but come out when requested.
AnonyMouse_39998
we have ponies who have a castle and a dolls house and they generally end up in the fire station and pirate ship too! lol we don't have barbies now, we were given a huge box full a couple of years ago, but after the children ( both boys and girls) removed all the clothing and could not seem to get it back on, they fell out of favour and were left alone for some time, like others, they were offered on occasion but not as an every day provision. Eventually we sent it to a charity shop as it was taking up very valuable space in our pack away storage.
AnonyMouse_13453
We didn't have any, but after reading through an Ecers a few years back, I brought in a couple of old ones from our loft, and some Action Man dolls too. They were an immediate hit! The girls quite often brought their own barbies in, but were reluctant to share, so this meant that they could play easier. They don't come out a lot, they have phases on them, but they are there if they want them.
AnonyMouse_3139
I like this...http://www.stylehasnosize.com/2013/home/real-life-proportions-barbie-2-0/ I asked a little girl years ago 'what does Barbie DO?' Her reply..'she can open hers legs'. With demonstration. So thats all Barbie is good for although we do have a range of dolls and recently in Reception I dont think i've ever seen so many Action Men.
