Guest
Hi! I was just wondering if anyone had any different or creative independnet activites for letter formation or phonics. We currently do 'rainbow letters', the children follow the letter using different colours. We also use playdough for the children to form the letter. Getting a bit tired of these and need something different that the children can do independently with no adult support! Thank you.
Guest
Hi, recently we've done letter formation in flour/semolina, shaving foam, sand etc... For phonics we have alphabet bags and as an independent activity we had the children matching objects to the correct letter of the alphabet. Lower and Upper case bingo, matching magnetic letters to an alphabet board, we have little alphabet books and we put out the letter sounds we are concentrating on and the children make their own little books (they love this!!), easels and chalk Is that the kind of thing you're after? Guest
Thanks for those Angel25. Find it hard because reception do not have help all the time so stay away from the more 'fun' activities like foam etc because of not having support. Thanks for the reply. Guest
We've modelled this once during a focused activity to the children and then used it as an independent activity, they love it. It is hard when you don't have the support.... I'll keep thinking,

AnonyMouse_4495
How about covering a tray with tin foil/holographic paper/wrapping paper then tipping in a thin layer of sand, flour, coloured rice grains etc and getting the children to write the letters. You could keep changing the paper underneath to keep the children's interest.

I have just bought a bundle of BEAUTIFUL holographic silver card from payperbox.co.uk (I think that's right). And, although I bought it for my personal use for card making, I'm sure I could spare some for something like that.
