AnonyMouse_31752
HI all Not sure if this is quite the right thread for this but I just had to ask this question as I am a little taken aback. It appears that a new member of my team has done an early years degree course but I have found out today that it contained NO play module. I am flabbergasted to say the least, I just can't get my head around how a level 6 qualification in 'early years' the one place in the whole of a child's education that hinges on play does not touch this in any way shape or form. speechless!!!!
AnonyMouse_11396
Crumbs how disappointing. I suppose it is hoped that this has already been covered under previous learning in Early Years. That said, not all students on this advanced course may have any previous experience in a related field, so quite worrying really.:(
AnonyMouse_31752
yeah thats what I thought Fredbear I just can't get over why it is not a fundamental non negotiable part of the course. I agree it could have been covered before BUT there are so many theories out there and I have personally found that at this level you engage with it more fully than perhaps you would have before. Isn't that the point of doing the degree, increasing knowledge in relevant theory and practice. That alone the reflective angles at this level
AnonyMouse_5970
It's not just why play wouldn't be included, but how you could get through an early years course at any level without it!

Guest
Sadly I've seen the specs for a few "Early Years" level 4, 5 and 6 courses which are lacking in their coverage of play. Currently battling at work to stop my higher up bosses from selling a level 6 qualification to early years FdA students as a suitable top up, because it doesn't really cover the types of content suitable for those wanting to continue studying early years. Fortunately they don't do the interviews for the course so we are managing to redirect students at that pint but it isn't the right way to go about things.
