removing tapestry queries from my new content feed?

Hi Steve, Matt et al,

Now, whilst I admire and appreciate tapestry as you know, I do find that my new content feed is becoming just about Tapestry!

Is there a way to click off individual forum areas so you can just see the ones you are interested in?

PS: We must have more to talk about surely?!

On closer inspection I may have just found it!!

However now I have to click all the things individually I do want rather then just the things I don't - correct?

I always use new content to view the forum and would be good to be able to exclude the tapestry ones from that.. is there a way, or could you turn it off for me your end..

I must admit I'm trying to get all the 'tapestry' help I can get at the moment but was thinking it must be driving some members nuts when you check new content and that's all that comes up I do try and scroll through the tapestry forum to see if the question has already been asked/answered first

This is something I managed to do a while back, as I also wanted to find the non-\tapestry/PRAMS conversations without having to plough through many. AS far as I could tell, you have to 'opt in' rather than choose to opt out of certain forum areas, so it was a case of clicking all the ones except Tapestry/PRAMS. I dont know if it was correct but it seems to have done the trick as I now just get a few new conversations each day.

When you bring up the new content page, there is a sort of menu down the left hand side, which starts with 'by content type' and this is where you apply the filters you want. So if you scroll to the bottom of that list, there is one that says 'filter by forum'. Click on this and it brings up a list of all the forum and sub forum areas. You then click on the ones you want (on mine they go a deep pinkish colour), then click save and there you are. I cant see an option to default to 'all' then uncheck the ones you dont want, but I am sure the powers that be can explain much better if there is a way. Likewise you can filter for periods of time, eg last week/month/year, and also if you want want to follow particular conversations, you can do that too.

Thanks catma - that's been on my list for a little while now. I'm aware that the Tapestry posts are in danger of drowning out our principle purpose at the FSF and I've been intending to reduce its visibility on the front page and elsewhere. Unfortunately I've been, well, drowning myself with Tapestry stuff, so haven't got round to it. Your post has made me more aware that it's a real thing and not just my own view, so I'll crack on with it!

It's a bit of a 'tiger by the tail' situation - I wasn't really expecting it to be the beast it's become!

Further to this chaps, we've now removed Tapestry forum posts (as the default) from the front page (both new topics and last twenty posts, so they're now showing up a little more EYFS-centrically! We're almost ready to remove them from the 'View New Content' listings as well - should be gone tomorrow.

If Tapestry users would like to opt back in, they'll be able to do so on the View New Content page. You can also enable email notifications by using the 'Follow this Forum' and 'Follow this topic' functions.

Right everybody, I've finished rummaging around in the guts of the forum to try and stop the rise of Tapestry dominating the core purpose of the website.

The "latest posts" and "latest topics" feeds on the front and other pages now exclude the Tapestry forum and sub forums.

The View New Content page has been modified to exclude the Tapestry forums and sub forums by default. You will notice on the left side of the screen is the filter pane, titled "By content type". At the bottom of the pane the "Filter by forum" option will be highlighted. Clicking on this opens a window with a list of all the forums and sub-forums, the selected ones being highlighted with a purple background. You can select and deselect forums in this list by clicking on them. Selecting "Show results from all forums" at the top of the list and saving, will select all the forums except the excluded Tapestry ones.

An important note here for all those people who want to be able to see Tapestry forum posts in the View New Content feed (e.g. those people at FSF Towers for example): You will need to open the "filter by forum" list, select the excluded Tapestry forums and save to turn them back on.

Hopefully that all makes sense!

Thanks to those who "do" at EYFS Central. I was beginning to think I was the only non tapestry user!!!

I hope that by removing from the new content/latest post pages that more users will be encouraged to contribute to and add new threads.
