AnonyMouse_42890 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I am sure all EYFS teachers would agree that assessment is only useful if we use it inform our planning. We have tried different planning formats in our Nursery and Reception classes. Would anyone like to share their format showing that planning should be a working document ie next steps etc. How is differentiation addressed and shown in that planning? Also are observation folders used and how? Endless post its? If you would like to share that would be great.
AnonyMouse_5970 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I am not a reception teacher but your post made me think of Alistair Bryce Clegg's Objective Led Planning. If you haven't seen it before, his website is www.abcdoes.com and you can search for his ideas on planning. Hope that's helpful.
Guest Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Our planning is a working document - we show it by writing any changes on it, so some weeks it can be a real cat's cradle if something spins off in an unexpected direction. Sorry I don't have anything posher to offer. Observations are both focussed and 'wow' moments. Our folders have 7 clear plastic wallets, one for each strand. We write on paper (a quarter of A4) and change colour for each half-term so we can keep track over time. They show how a child's learning is embedded as it becomes evident in their own activities rather than anything adult-led. We aim for at least one observation for each child in each area each half-term, but it's a big ask. We are trying very hard to lose the 'needing to write something down on a clipboard' getting in the way of interaction with children. Hope that's helpful.
