Guest
Just wondering if anyone knows a way in which to print off a full journal of a child? Currently we are having to go into each observation and print them off one by one. Anyone know a shortcut? Thanks! Joanne.
AnonyMouse_13453
Hi Joanne. Are you using Tapestry? If you are, go to the management area (click at the top right) and select to manage the children, then when you have the list of children on the screen, click on the cog at the right of each child and choose to export to PDF, selecting the options you want. Then you just print out the pdf

Guest
Just wondering why you were printing off.... One of the reasons I was allowed Tapestry was to cut down on our printing ( and glueing and sticking!)
AnonyMouse_8885
If you want to give it to parents I would download it to PDF and either e-mail it to them or put it on a disc and give it to them. One of the reasons I chose Tapestry was to cut down on ink and printing costs, let alone my time printing, cutting out pictures and gluing them in LJ's.
SueFinanceManager
Hi I have spoken to a few Tapestry users who have downloaded the learning journal to a memory stick at the end of the child's time in the setting....another more cost effective way of sharing the journal Sue
AnonyMouse_13453
Yes, we put ours onto a DVD along with all the photographs taken of that child during their time with us
AnonyMouse_7120
Is that easy enough to do Cait ? Have done this with photos but tried an LJ yet
AnonyMouse_13453
Yes it's very easy. You just download it as a PDF and save it either straight onto the dvd or into your documents. I did the latter so I could keep a copy for myself

Guest
can parents print off the journal from tapestry or do I need to download it to a PDF first? Thanks
AnonyMouse_13453
Hi, Leader, and welcome to the Forum. Congratulations on your first post. I would suggest that you just download them as a PDF onto DVD for them. That way, they can print it if the want, or leave it on the disk to keep. The beauty of the PDF is that it makes it into a proper booklet, rather than just printing the individual pages from the screen.
AnonyMouse_46692
I use Tapestry, but actually printed them off for my LJ's as due Ofsted and wanted just o hand her the files and say crack on haha! I must say they look SUPER!!!! Very impressed (although my printer ink is not!) TOP TIP- if you do download as PDF file, make sure you compress it down to save onto a disk/pen stick some of my files where huge!

AnonyMouse_51927
Just checking, do you all use iPads with tapestry? Am just about to order! Did you train your staff in using it or did you all just muddle along?

AnonyMouse_13453
Hi kirstylean. We used a PC, a laptop and two android tablets. I spent time learning the system on the PC before the apps were launched, so I was very familiar with all that it could do at that time. Once the apps were launched, I spent a couple of evenings looking at how the app differed from the full PC programme do then showed the staff. You will need a PC to be able to access the full programme for management purposes, unless you choose to go into it as a web version on the tablet. AnonyMouse_19920
we are going to start with tapestry in september (taken me a few years to get this!) - we will be using hudls - does anyone else use hudls - do they work well with this?
AnonyMouse_39602
Hi Blondie we use hudl 's and find they do the job and good photos too.
AnonyMouse_6008
We started with a cheap supermarket tablet and taking photos on our digital camera to upload through our laptops and found the tablet did not access the internet well, so got ipads when we had more money :-) which work better with the internet and keeping charge. We got a deal on them by going into a shop in uniform and saying we needed 4 for a preschool (about 10% off, I think?).
