Guest
Hello all you wonderful people Need inspiration for our next half term theme (Jan-Feb 06)- 'In the Air' - seemed like a good choice when we made our long term plans many moons ago - but am now struggling to actually find something which will inspire us after Christmas. Any thoughts, ideas, etc..........................will be welcomed with open arms..........cannot seem to function beyond the glitter season at the moment!!!!! Guest
What about using Little Cloud by Eric Carle as your inspiration? Linda
Guest
Ooh! There's Cloudland, by John Burningham, which is a lovely story. There are loads of things you can do from that. You could: Papier mache hot air balloons Have an airport role play area have a balloon race fund raiser (with the attached tickets: 'please return' etc.) firework pictures (don't know if you can face it again so soon, or if it ties in with any festivals: Chinese new year? Dragon stories Fairy stories The Blue balloon Whatever next (with rocket making activity) Gotta go now, but I'll keep thinking!

AnonyMouse_4544
Did the story Bear in the air and hung papier mache hot air balloons from the ceiling over a landscape led into alot of work on plan drawings maps etc Also got the children to paint pictures of things that travel in the air..........planes rockets balloons hang gliders bird kites etc. We have made a huge chinese dragon and suspened this from the ceiling it was intended as part of our new year celebrations but inspired lots of inaginative role play and writing. Guest
I seem to recall there's a Winnie the Pooh story where Pooh (or maybe Piglet?) is holding a balloon and gets lifted into the air. (Can't remember what happens though!)

Guest
Hi, Am just nearing the end of 'The Blue Balloon' Theme in Nursery. Started with the story The Blue Balloon ( Nick Inkpen) made hot air balloons, Balloon painting, balloon emergent writing/pictures. Progressed onto weather- recorded it, went out and talked about it, based creative pictures around the weather/music/dance. Had a space theme in there too- rocket making/space role play/astronaughts/space dough. There is much more we have done but thats just some of the things of the top of my head. Just give us a shout if you would like any others. Oh and forces- blowing in water tray/bubble printing/blow painting..... Nina
