AnonyMouse_35807 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hi, I am wondering how often you set Next Steps for the children in your settings/ schools? If you do have more than 1 year group in your EYs does your target setting reflect this (ie choose next steps in Prime areas in FS1 and Maths and Literacy in R for example) Some feedback we have received says once a term whilst others say every 2-3 weeks?!? Thanks!
AnonyMouse_33773 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 At the time when a child is able to do something, we set a new step. It's part of an ongoing process.
AnonyMouse_5970 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Yes, same for us. We don't have a set time scale as children achieve their next steps at different rates. We use Prime Areas for under three's (with some Specific areas if appropriate) and Prime and Specific for over three's.
AnonyMouse_35807 Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Ok. Thanks Do you set a Next Step in each area of learning for each child in you setting or is it done more on a needs basis?
AnonyMouse_33773 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 It depends on what is a priority, so needs based, particularly for the younger ones. Older children (4 1/2 perhaps, depending on the child) have about one in each area of maths and one in each area of literacy to ensure progression.
Guest Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 we are school nursery and we set 1 for 3 prime areas every half term, and really focus on them, as they are usually longer term thing, e.g. joining in the play of others/initiating a conversation etc etc. if not achieved they would be continued the next half term, but changed a little to reflect any progress made towards it. literacy and numeracy targets are quick to achieve and change as soon as secure. things like recognising their name, rote-counting to 5, recognising 2 items by sight, counting out 3 items from a larger group etc etc. we try to work on lit and num next step daily. we are a school and i have a very challenging target to meet for lit and num, so that's why we do these daily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
