Guest Muggles6
Hello I am reception teacher and have applied for the phase leader (nursery, reception and year 1) job at my school, I have been lucky enough to get an interview! The headteacher has said: "You will be asked to develop a group of year 1 children's thinking by questioning them on a story of your choice" I assume, its the usual guided reading comprehension questions? I am unsure of what story to choose!? Anyone have any suggestions of a book that you've have found works well? Thank you so much!
Guest
We used 'Jack and the Flum Flum tree' by Julia Donaldson to develop problem solving thinking in Year R last year - there are several opportunities for 'oh oh, what would you do' type thinking sessions about the scenarios as the story develops. Have used the Gingerbread Man similarly - how else could the GB man get across the river? Good luck!
Guest
Thank you! My headteacher has said that I do not necessarily need to read a story book....could use a non fiction book... more about the use of questioning?! They have been learning about the great fire of london... I wondered if I got an non-fiction book on great fire of london and use it ask them questions... how do we know where to look for information? etc? I'm not 100% sure!
