Maintained or independent?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Just a question... What is the difference between a maintained or an independent school in the UK? In which of these would an international private school fall into?

You might wonder why I ask, but I live in Europe and do not know all the aspects of the English educational system. Thanks in advance for your kind and prompt response.

Maintained schools are usually run with LEA control although we now have Academies which can manage their own finances. Independent schools are independent of LEA control, pupils are fee paying and they may stand alone or be part of a chain.

An International private school would fall within the Independent status.

Dear Susan: Thank you very much for your kind and prompt reply! :1b

Is the LEA control in regards to the economical aspect or inspections as well?
Are international schools in the UK still required to follow the statutory requirements for the EYFS as an any other maintained (public schools in the USA) or independent (private) school?

Sorry for all the questions. Have a lovely day!
