We use 2 cups of flour to 1 salt it seems the cheaper flour is the best. Liquid paint can be used to add colour and works well. We find it lasts several days - for hygiene reasons we never keep it longer.

We use this one with the children. An adult has to add the boiling water, but the children can measure, add and mix everything else. Need to wait for it to cool down a bit before the children can knead it too.

2 cups plain flour

1 cup salt

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

2 cups boiling water

A few drops of food colouring

Mix together until fully combined. Knead and allow to cool before storing in airtight container

I use this recipe when I make playdough with the children. 1 cup of water is sufficient to mix it. The children love making it and the beauty of it is when they tread it across the carpet it hoovers up really easily.
