AnonyMouse_4562
The children have been enjoying playing hide and seek and What's the time Mr Wolf. We are trying to think of other games that involve counting but apart from rhymes we are stuck! Help!
AnonyMouse_13453
We played the farmer's in his den, but instead of choosing a child - which was generally painful! the child in the centre called out a number and we counted round from where that child had been in the circle, to get the next child for the centre. You can make it more complicated by the child suggesting clockwise or anti-clockwise too.
AnonyMouse_19782
At tidy up time I have a bag of large foam numbers in it, the children get a dip in the bag and then put away that many objects. We are still doing egg hunts too with those large plastic eggs in different colours. grandma's footsteps is similar to Whats the time Mr Wolf. 'Grandma' turns Her back on the children but says how many steps they may take - winner is first to get to Grandma - can say big steps or little steps too for added pleasure! Do you have a parachute? We put a teddy on and give him the bumps so we go round the circle of children asking for a number, their age etc and give teddy that many bumps, or we count from 10 backwards to "blast off' " Edited May 5, 2015 by Panders
AnonyMouse_19762
One of our faves is 'filling a star bucket' - all pretend of course..... "put a star bucket in front of you - today we are going to pick 10 stars (or this time of year it is usually 20) reach up high to pick those stars and put them in your bucket" - then we 'pick our stars' slowly and count - hope that makes sense (it does to me ) We also count 'jumps' and 'claps'...... Ten green bottles - as an 'action game' - standing and then as I (gently) tap them on the head they fall down Similar idea with 5 Fat sausages - we wiggle our bottoms to the sizzle, sizzle, sizzle 5 Little Speckled Frogs - again as an 'action game'
