AnonyMouse_7120
Sorry kiddywink but if they haven't done the update service ( I can't remember how many days you get from completing DBS) they will have to redo DBS, I had a couple last year that had to do this, I'm sure they receive an email telling them to do the update within however many days, you can't do it for them :-/
AnonyMouse_23964
I believe it's only 19 days.
AnonyMouse_51737
If your last member was checked pre DBS update service starting then they will be fine if they did a CRB and EY2 through Ofsted, if they have joined post update service then you may have issues as the question is asked on EY2 if you have signed up I'm pritty sure. Off top of my head I carnt think of the month/year it altered. All but 2 of my committee are CRB not DBS. I'm police check lol ?
AnonyMouse_66453
Hello This doc was useful for me https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-register-on-the-early-years-register I have been through the appointment of a new committee for the first time so understand it can be daunting but at least I know what's needed for next time. AnonyMouse_61137
I sent a letter to Ofsted detailing all the changes to the setting and those associated with it, got a phone call back (imagine the panic) and a very nice gentleman went through the Committee members they have on record, some of them from seven years ago! I asked him, what had happened to all the letters I sent in the intervening years updating those records, and his response was, 'We don't always get them' Hmmmm. He told me that as my Committee had not signed up for the update service, (which was not mentioned anywhere on the site where they completed their DBS so of course they didn't) their DBS were worthless and all have to be done again! We are due Ofsted any time and I am demented trying to gather 7 people in one place at one time so we can get it all done at once as if I am not standing behind them, nagging, they 'Forget'
AnonyMouse_7120
Hi Alisonmead2015 and welcome to the forum :-) I gave my new CM's 1week to complete, we're now on wk 5 and have only received 2 suitable persons letters back so far, it also annoys me when my last inspector turned up with people on the list who's children are about to leave uni ...and I always phone and go through who to remove/who to add, getting their own house in order comes to mind :-/
AnonyMouse_59259
DBS as follows: http://ofsteddbsapplication.co.uk/Step-One.aspx and complete the process. Print off the ID check form and get it filled in and sent off. Once certificate through go to https://www.disclosureservices.com/update/ (but only via Internet Explorer) and sign up. Volunteers are free, employee's are £13.00 per year and it's their responsibility to pay for it. You have 19 days only to sign up once the certificate is received. Then visit https://online.ofsted.gov.uk/onlineofsted/Default.aspx and register for a Government Gateway login and then complete the EY2. Once checked, Ofsted will send a letter to the nominated person about suitability - For committee members only not staff. If someone already has a DBS certificate you can check it for your setting by this process Visit this link through Internet Explorer (it doesn't work with Chrome or Firefox). https://secure.crbonline.gov.uk/crsc/check?execution=e1s1 Enter the certificate number The surname and the date of birth. You must have permission to do so from the person you are checking. It's still too complicated and puts too much responsibility on the individual to complete all the steps. With Ofsted taking so long to confirm suitability, some groups may not know that someone hasn't completed all the steps until it's too late. I've done 1 staff one and 18 committee DBS's in the past two weeks for 2 different settings. I find it far easier to get them to come to me and bring all their ID and do it with them in the same place as I am. Then repeat the entire "come to me" process for the update service and EY2 bit. Hope that helps!
