Any ideas for pirate or ice cream parlour

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I am thinking about some loose planning ideas for next week. The children have been interested in pirates so we have treasure maps, treasure hunts and a couple of books. Has any one got any exciting ideas for this set of interests. We have also made pirate map paper.

Also as it is so hot I thought it might be fun to do an ice cream cafe and make ice cream. Have anyone of you wonderful practitioners discovered any exciting ideas to stretch this set of ideas.

Thanks in advance.Brain very dead following completion of my dissertation so all help gratefully received.

Hopefully you have someone who has made ice cream, or has a machine maybe and a good freezer compartment, ours was too small so we had to settle for taking ice cream in and letting them loose with sprinkles etc. they virtually all did it at the same time because the chance of getting ice cream was tooooooooo much for them. Later, they did play with the wooden icre cream sets we have and we decorated the area with some ice cream/lolly shaped bunting we bought last year from Sainsburys, they had a till etc. we set up a beach area with sand, inflatables etc, had sea gulls downloaded onto the iphone etc. they loved it all. Ours are having ice pops at the moment or versions of them to keep them drinking and hydrated.

I hid my phone the other day with some pirate music playing on it and they had to track it down by listening out for it - they liked that game, so difficult for them to not watch you hide it subsequent times though! We have a few pirate songs they like to do. We taught them pirate sayings We have a large climbing frame and we can use the slide to make a plank for them to walk onto, and we put shark puppets etc all around the area. We have pesky pirates who hide our snack (and according to the children many other things too)

Lots of pirate gubbinsn (party bag stuff like pirate note pads, foam cutlasses and eye patches) from the 99p shop to put in a treasure box.

We also use our community playthings large wooden blocks with those big tubes from carpet rolls and old sheets so that they can build a pirate ship.

Have also got another box with loads of "tinkerbelle" type outfits and precious jewels so they can be Peter Pan type pirates and fairies - no discrimination either the boys dress up in this as well as the girls.

Buried 2ps in the sand and had those little metal detector thingies so that the children could find them or just dig for them anyway too

Thanks Panders, love the idea of hiding pirate music. I don't need to play taped sea gull music.... They are on singing all the time!!

I love the idea of making ice cream with the children.... Have an ice cream maker so will have to practice at home first

Once some 'pesky pirates' stole our setting dog (fluffy one) - luckily they left a map for us to follow to get him back - the map led us to the local primary school where we found him safe and sound with the school secretary! :1b

Ha ha... Them pesky pirates.... Your post has me wondering what they can steal at my setting!

I found a recipe for ice cream dough (think it was on Pinterest) using shower gel and corn flour -- used lots of fruity scented gel and it smells lovely. If you get the consistency right, it will scoop like real ice cream!
