Early Years support Worker Interview - FSU

Recommended Posts

Hi lovely people,

I wonder if you could help me. I have just received news that I have been shortlisted for the above post. I am currently working in a playgroup. For the class task: "we would like to know how you set up inviting play activities and how you then facilitate learning by interacting with the children." I am asked to base this on a well-known story and it should last ~25min.

I thought I would like to base this on 'Handa's Surprise' and bring in a basket of the fruits from the story, printed out fruit labels, and a bowl, some knives and chopping boards. I was planning to check for allergies, then get the children to handle the fruit, guess the names, try to read the labels and match it to the fruit, then (if there is time) make a fruit salad (after washing hands) with them, all the time inviting the children to talk about the sizes, weights, colours, smell etc.

Does this sound ok to you? What particular areas of learning should I support in FSU? Do you think 25min is enough? I don't know how many children, it just says "small class".

Sorry for so many questions, just not sure.

Thanks, Poppy

We have just done something similar as a parent activity day but instead of a fruit salad the children made individual fruit skewers. It was really successful, the parents had not thought about fruit skewers. Every child went home with a recipe sheet, a fruit kebab and a healthy eating award. Even satisfied management!

Hi Mrsblazer,

thank you for your feedback, skewers are a good idea too, that would also promote their fine motor skills ; )

So far have been able to locate all the fruit apart from Guava, wonder if I can do it without if not I'll have to think about something new : O
