Opening a Nursery

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm new to the forum.

I am currently a nursery manager and currently being transferred to a brand new nursery of our chain.

I am looking into opening my own nursery. I want to use this current experience as a stepping stone so I know what to expect. I went through an Ofsted inspection last year as manager and got a Good (I was sent to the nursery as it was on an inadequate) so not too worried about that part but I have never done a registration before so want to see what this is like.

Any advice welcome to opening your own day care.

I enjoy the chain I work for but have more idea's that I want to call my own.

The biggest piece of advice I would give is to make sure you have lots of money!!! And also make sure there is a need in the area.

I opened my preschool 4 years ago and it cost a lot more than I planned and it was very slow to build numbers due to the quiet and small village we were in. We are now in the Process of moving premises to try and increase our numbers and staying where we was with just myself and my deputy we would have been making a loss of thousands of pounds!

Good luck with things

Hello,

I opened my Playgroup/Nursery last September. The registration process can seem pretty daunting with all the forms etc. My advice would be leave yourself plenty of time to complete the forms thoroughly. My registration visit lasted just over two hours and involved me giving a tour of my setting answering some questions and having evidence of my policies. If you have all of this to hand you wont have a problem. Luckily I found a space in an area where there wasn't much else in the means of childcare so after my first term luckily we took off and are now full, however make sure you advertise as much as you can leaflets, flyers, Facebook page etc.

Good luck with your venture!!
