AnonyMouse_33773
Do you record each time you have given a child some puffs on an inhaler?
AnonyMouse_23964
Yes. Person who gives it and name of witness. Time it was given and dose. Signature of parent with the time they were informed.

AnonyMouse_11396
Absolutely, all of the above. By recording each time it is administered also helps to see whether the Asthma and medication received for it is being controlled effectively. Parents also advise on arrival when their child had last used their pump as in what time on that day so we can see whether the pumps alone are supporting them or whether they may need additional medications. Asthma should never be taken lightly as it can become a life threatening condition if not treated appropriately.
AnonyMouse_19920
as everyone else - we get parents to sign giving us permission to administer the inhaler if needed.if we then administer the inhaler we write it in the book and get the parent to sign when they pick their child up. AnonyMouse_33773
On our form, the parent signs that a medication is to be given and then again when a course of it is completed, e.g. antibiotics. For this child who is joining with asthma, where the medication is ongoing, I was unsure of what to do. I'm now realising that the parent needs to sign at the end of each session any medication has been given. Thank you!
AnonyMouse_30128
Also a good idea to check if they have had any doses in the morning and when
AnonyMouse_5970
Two members of staff sign every time we administer medicine not just beginning and end of the course. We ask parents to sign each day. We treat asthma inhalers the same as all other medicines. The only difference for long term medicine is that we ask parents to sign to give their permission only once, then at the end of each day that we have given the inhaler. AnonyMouse_44476
Same as star grower, for long term medication they sign a medicine form at the start and then we just have a small exercise book we keep with the inhaler where we right date time etc and then parents sign at end of day! AnonyMouse_23964
We have several children with asthma and we ask for an inhaler to be left in setting which is bagged up with child's name on and the original box. Parents fill in a Health Care Plan which tells us of posssible triggers, symptons to look for, how often we can give the puffs etc and when we should contact parents or get medical help. We have another child with ecxema and we sometimes have to put cream on and its the same system. We have a slightly different form for the medicines that stay with us but parents still sign at end of day if inhaler used. Short term medication eg antibiotics are signed in and out each day.
