Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015

Recommended Posts

We define extremism as “vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs.

We also include in our definition of extremism calls for the death of members of our armed forces, whether in this country or overseas.”

“Vocal opposition to democracy” is therefor classed as extremism?

So if we don't agree with what Tony Blair did, like sending troops to Iraq for example, we are classed as an extremist? Even though it was a bad decision and nothing was found and in actual fact he should be facing prison himself for war crimes according to many people!

Even though the Counter Terrorism Act is required in some ways it is just a way to further control the masses and to persuade public opinion in their favor so they can do as they please to other countries without public backlash. We no longer have the right to disagree with their decisions!

Summary - more of our rights taken away in this case freedom of speech!

I just wanted to share this after i read this new act! I wondered if many agreed

In what sense?

Yes in what sense?

If you look at blondies post tonight (think it was blondie...having trouble with links at the mo!)

The information given in the link would suggest that 'we' are unable to teach information that goes against scientific research....therefore the theory of evolution vs the theory of god's making of the world would seem to cause potential issues for church schools wouldn't it?

I have to be honest, I'm not sure I understand BroadOaks argument at all, nor see why Church Schools have any problem with all this............

Believeing in democracy does not mean you have to agree with every decision made by the government, nor does teaching in church school mean that you only teach or value 1 religion.

The evolution debate is a bit of a red herring here.... the teaching of creationism has been "disallowed" for some time.

i sense this thread may get heated, so may just run for cover now...............!!!!

interesting as our local schools still has these conversations! perhaps that's where my ignorance lies!!

I am not likely to get heated about this...I went to a convent school! just interested in the fact that some of the pre-schools who have a religious base can be quite fervent....and are often run by very religious trustees . I just wondered if this governments ideas may have more of a backlash than they have bargained for?

Well if you read what i wrote all becomes clear :P

The government want to take away people's RIGHTS.. ie freedom of speech. If somebody disagree's with democracy ie what the elected government tell us, my example was "Weapons of mass destruction" in a nutshell... ie people voted to invade Iraq on FALSE information in the past... it wil happen with Syria soon. The people who voice an opinion against this democratic process are being classed as Extremists? When really all they are doing is expressing their views. The government wants to stop this from happening and simply want to make decisions without anybody stopping them... ie us the people.

Yes it seems this conversation isn't needed here... but i like to express my opinions to hopefully enlighten more people.

You will either think i am talking rubbish (fair enough) or you will begin to understand and question why things happen the way they do.

Me i like to question things that make no sense.

I think this is the crux of the problem. I do not equate disagreeing with the elected government as anti democratic, nor do I see that this bill stops me from expressing my right to freedom of speech..

I don't know much about religion myself.. except a lot of people do believe in something that nobody has ever seen. I love the idea of something that many people get comfort, joy and happiness from and something that gives people hope. This is what i guess religion should do and the same can be said of football

It is not just religion but any groups of people that can be classed as extremist.. and there are extreme people in most groups!

it is not anti democratic to disagree with any government.. it is the decisions of any government that people stand up against usually by waving boards around or marching through the streets demonstrating.. these larger groups of people might get away with it for now due to numbers.. but how long for? These new acts are slowly but surely heading towards making it a criminal act to demonstrate against government decisions in any shape or form. These things take time and slowly progress so many people don't even notice or too many people stand up against them. Divide and conquer techniques are being shown in the media all the time.. and this is the other flip of the coin on this anti-extremism propaganda, it is all about control it's obvious for me to see this after watching so many geo-political events happening daily it seems.

At the end of the day unless we see it for ourselves we only see it on the media and this is mostly TV news broadcasts. News is hearsay and usually not the whole truth or we only see one side of the story in many cases. Many people simply believe everything they see then form opinions or views based on this "brainwashing" news propoganda. In reality things may be very different.

Also people who live in the country might find somewhere like London, Manchester etc very extreme when really its normal for people who live there... if we lived in Syria things might not actually seem so extreme.. or how about Saudi Arabia where beheadings are the norm!!

At the end of the day the main stream media is used to push an agenda of the government... it is quite obvious to see.

A good example surfaced yesterday on my FB news feed.. it showed a video of a large group of young men (mainly) throwing stones at something. The written part was apparently from a Greek person.. and he was explaining that this group of people are refugee's or immigrants causing trouble on a Greek island.. throwing stones at tourists and disrespecting the country. (in a nutshell)

Ok this kind of alternative media footage on FB (viral footage btw) would then cause many people to form an opinion. In the comments section where many racist, or far right winged comments... in summery, a very bad picture in general for these refugee's had come from this viral post. It could also cause tourism trade in Greece to decline to to fear mongering.

In reality however.. these people where refugee's that had come from Turkey and the Greek police and officials where trying to "process" them before they boarded another ship to another European country. Yes it got out of hand and these people where in fact throwing stones at the officials (not good of course) but many football matches produce riots much worse from us English "hooligans" - it all calmed down and they went on their merry way. An article did appear in the Daily Mail regarding this to show a more likely picture.. albeit still not convincing to me

The point is.. do not believe everything you read or see on FB or even the MSM.. it is all used to push a story or agenda and will be used to manipulate people.

Peace :D
