Names!

Nothing unusual for us although we have a Bertie and I have to be careful to not say Bertie Bassett , I'm terrible for adding or changing names as all the staff have 'special ' rhyming names which the children love. Saying that we have a little girl whose family originate from Ghana, traditionally the children are called nana followed by the day of the week they are born on , an aunty , influential person or grandparent etc as mum explained. Our little girl asked me the other day ' why do you call me nana ? I said because that's what's mummy said to call you , to which she replied ' my name is Akosua not nana, I was very proud of her wanting her own identity and when I told her mum she found it funny and said ' oh ok ' but I call them all nana ' so now we are all making sure we call her by her name or at least nana Akosua - she was born on a Sunday

I vividly remember one year where we had a lot of children with names that caused me no end of problems..

Niamh, Aoife, Saoirse, Grainne,

and add in Sean,Shaun, Shawn,

and Andrew x 3 -

Destiny and Keanu just added to the mix..

was so glad we had name cards displayed on the wall or I would never have managed to spell any correctly.
