AnonyMouse_834 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Clearly we need to do something about the activities/resources/opportunities children are accessing outside. I moved away from formal planning outside as it was just too much paperwork. But now the outside areas seems boring and uninviting! Do you leave permanent resources outside or set up each day? Can anyone explain how they plan for their outdoor environment, and if possible share a planning sheet please? Thank you
AnonyMouse_7120 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 we don't plan outside either as a general thing, the only outdoor planning will be for a child's NS or interest and they prefer to be outside, we ensure resources are available to cover each area outdoors, we have different bags (gardening and builders ones) that are filled with different resources to cover maths and literacy, but we do have much more outside now that just stays there even if it just means uncovering at set up time :-), the fb group 'playing to learn' has some pics and video clips of some super outdoor areas, also for pack away settings
Guest Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 this is my aspiration https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=0OHFTGADcnI however, while we are working towards this I have a planning sheet that has days of the week down the side, curricular areas across the top with learning objectives briefly across the top, and this creates a grid which we fill in with enhancements we are providing in each session. So 1 A4 sheet for each week, and only brief notes on it. Outdoor provision week beginning 9 29 2014.doc
AnonyMouse_16163 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I too am struggling as to what to do with our outside space, especially now the weather has turned. It's great during the summer we have tents, wooden climbing frame, A frame and slide, space hoppers, rocker, mud kitchen, hoops, bats balls, home corner/dressing up, sand, water, tyres with wooden planks across, paints- all this on a grassed area, then on concrete bit bikes/sit +ride. Unlike some nurseries/schools though, we have no undercover area,so like today because it was raining quite heavily, we didn't go out. I know there's the saying "There no such thing as bad weather, it's the clothing" and I'm all for getting them out but when it is raining what would we put out for them? Plus at moment we have 1- 4yr old, 5- 3yr olds and 2 -2/ half yr olds. We are a pack away setting in a small village hall which we moved to a year ago and this is the first time in all our 20 years we have had any outside space(Other venue was a church hall) So any ideas would be gratefully appreciated but funds are low due to numbers. PS I watched the youtube film which is brill and would'nt we all like to have that kind of setup, Just wish she or someone would make a video based on a pack away setting with limited resources, there's very few out there, now that would be inspirational.
