Guest
Hi All, I posted in here as it is not visible to outsiders. Today my chef made an allegation against one of my staff in the toddler room for being "too harsh when disciplining a child and bumping her on to her chair" there were 2 other staff in the room at the time. I asked everyone to write down what happened, so I could make sense of it. Neither the person accused nor the other 2 members of staff where concerned at all about her behaviour. The person making the allegation has spent 2 days at work crying about personal issues on and off during the day including before she went into the classroom today. They are family related issues and the child that was told off today is from the same cultural background as her. The child is fine, wasn't in danger or hurt and was perfectly happy with the situation once she was allowed back to the table to eat her cake without spitting at her friends. Overall a normal thing as far as I am concerned. I will still call the LADO tomorrow to get some advice... what do you think is the likely recommendation? There has been bad blood between the 2 staff members before and I am not sure whether this is a malicious allegation. Support appreciated xx
AnonyMouse_11396
I would certainly follow your internal procedures and contact Lado too. Why was your chef in the classroom, is this a normal thing that they do. I would also hold a meeting with the accuser whom is having some personal issues to see if the provision can do anything to support them. Good luck with this. Its important for staff to know they can whistle blow if needed and why tight policies enable you to action if required.
AnonyMouse_51737
For me and our policies I would contact Lado and ask what to do, as if it falls into Lado remit we are not to take part in any of the investigations so i would establish is everyone currently safe, do I need to take immediate action? If not then I would not conduct any meetings or ask for detailed information until I knew Lado didn't want the case. If you end up dealing with it I think if you get all points of view and none back up the cook then revisit positive handling and behaviour of children with the team as an outcome addressing situations that could fall foul of your policies and generate a Lado Referal. This would then show everyone that you take allegations seriously and listen to all as well as ensure your team are clear on expectations. Hope it works it way out for you x
