AnonyMouse_19782
Sorry about topic title, couldn't quite words to explain what I want!! Basically wonder if anyone can recommend a story for a 4 year boy who has just become the "middle child" as baby sister born a couple of weeks ago. Mum quite upset that her normally loving boy has been quite cross and angry with her despite what she does. He is fine with the baby and his older brother, just seems to be having problems with the adjustment in his position in the family may be. I have absolutely tons of books, but can't think of one off the top of my head that might be a good story for her to read as a catalyst to him talking about it all. AnonyMouse_13453
Hmm, loads of views and no replies. The only new birth book that springs to mind is 'The Spring Rabbit' but that's about waiting for new baby and not really about place in family. Perhaps we should put our heads together send write one!

Perhaps we should put our heads together send write one! Excellent idea Cait. Most of the books seem to be about anticipating the birth, or a bit of sibling rivalry, but that isn't so much the case I think, Mum said today he had another "melt down" in the afternoon, my own middle child also tested me to the limit, just to make sure I still loved him, and he was a brilliant brother to the older one and even more so to the younger and remains so today. But his place in the family order changed and I was in hospital for the final month before baby was born, he had a lot to contend with. I have advised this little one's mother to go easy and give lots of reassurance and cuddles etc., and try to have just some time alone with him, rather than him and the baby or older brother, to try and plan something meaningful for them both, but it's hard with such a young baby. She is definitely trying not to "coo" over the baby in front of him, she does that when he's with us or in bed!!!
AnonyMouse_13453
Sounds like a great plan. I was a 'middle child', and had been the 'baby' for six years before my little sister surprised us all. I was the youngest of three, a secure gang of three, only 4 years between us. I found it hard, I can remember it quite clearly, because we were old enough to get on with it, we just did! There was a lot of jealousy, she seemed to get spoilt rotten, although, looking back, for Mum just having one baby to care for must have been great! My older brother and sister had the responsibility for making sure I was ok! It sounds dreadfully neglectful, but it wasn't really!
AnonyMouse_13453
He might react well to feeling important. Being given some small task that only he can do. Ooh - I can recall a story I had at preschool in the 'baby duck and the new eye-glasses' series about a new baby, where the older duckling is jealous of the attention the new baby is getting. I'll look on Amazon and see if I can find it Edited November 27, 2015 by Cait
