Elf on the Shelf

Recommended Posts

We made a huge fuss at the front door then Deputy brought in a badly wrapped gift and a letter from Father Christmas which basically said that Elfie was one of his favourite elves he had sent him because he did not have time to come himself. If he liked the children he would play hide and seek with them and tell them things about Christmas.

When the children opened the box, Elfie had already "escaped" and left behind a photocopied picture of himself and a note saying ha, ha, I've escaped, bet you can't find me....... and off they went searching for him.

Ours was in a lovely gift box with some snowflakes from north pole. Letter from Santa saying he had problems with Elfie. He had heard about our wonderful kind helpful children and had sent Elfie to help us get ready for christmas and learn good habits from children. Santa will pick him up Christmas eve. The children's faces were a delight when one of them realised it was from Santa.

I sat our Elf in the middle of a huge pile of lit up fairy lights, up on the windowsill and waited....and waited...and waited until finally someone noticed him!! Read a little letter introducing him to the children and have warned them that he loves to get up to mischief and play tricks. He is in the middle of the Christmas wreath as we speak waiting to be discovered tomorrow!! Have made "Eric" responsible for choosing a child each day to open the calendar, takes the pressure and guilt away from me then!!!

Love Panders idea of photocopying him, will have to do that before he disappears again!!

Happy Elfing around everyone!! :D

Quite a few of my children have an Elf in their homes this year - some great names too - I particularly liked 'Nobby Crinklepants' :D

I like them when they are just there to create a bit of fun........not so keen when they are used to regulate behaviour with the 'threat' "they will tell FC if you are not good" :(

This morning, Elfred is strung up with toilet paper along the top of the children's cubicles - waiting for shrieks when they go to wash hands for breakfast! His friend Buddy has also arrived, bringing some hot chocolate treats for the staff.

Finding it really hard to decide what to do next from my long, long list....

Oh wow, you have a buddy who brings hot chocolate, I want one!! Eric was found in the middle of the Christmas wreath today!! Haven't quite decided what mischief he will get up to tomorrow!! Going to wait until next week to photocopy him (thanks Panders) and make some clues so the children can find him. Have decided not to have Father Christmas this year and Eric will bring the presents instead.

Teenage son looking over my shoulder reading this and giving me a very pitying look!!

Today Elfred is Superelf, suspended from the ceiling complete with superhero logo and cape.

For the grown ups I'm doing The Voice set up on Monday if I can find red paper cups to make chairs!

Not sure what I'm doing for the children next yet.

Elfie Sparklebottom was sat on the top of the christmas tree on Friday when we went in, wearing the star as a hat!xmastree.gif

He had lost his letter on the way, so Santa had to phone up and remind him what he was supposed to tell the children! We had all the children singing to 'Santa' down the phone before we had finished.

I'm just making snowflake biscuits so Elfie can have them in his bag tomorow.xmassmile.gif

Children found Eric with just his legs sticking out of the biscuit box on Friday. They all thought it very funny!! Think I too will make some Xmas biscuits for Eric to bring in for them. Tomorrow they are going to discover that Eric has hung up a enormous Christmas wall hanging and is somewhere hidden on it.

Buddy arrived today! He did his disappearing act from the box from santa (thanks for that idea!!). We have told the children that we cant let him go missing again so will be putting wanted posters (for mischievous behaviour!!) around pre-school, school, village shop etc so everyone has to keep an eye out for him!!

We are taking lots of photos plus ones of him around the village so children can see what he gets up to when they are not there!!

Yesterday, Elfred was suspended over a door, hanging in a giant slinky, which the children loved boinging up and down when they went by. Today, he is tangled in paperchains in the pre-school room. Tomorrow he is going to be a penguin (or Santa? Making use of those festive Costa cups!) Buddy, our staff elf, was a reindeer and brought some Malteaser reindeer for the staff, and today he is fishing for fish biscuits.

We've just wrapped up all our large furniture and Christmas Tree with wrapping paper for tomorrow's mischievous adventures!!!

Oooo......... dare I do this? Did see a picture on Pinterest where someone wrapped up the toilet ::1a but not sure if I should do one of the children's or the staff one!!!

BTW if anyone wants an Elf for next year (having bought mine in the Card Factory for 99p each) they have slightly bigger ones with velcro on the hands in Clintons - think they were £6 or £7; thinking I might get one as it would be so much easier for poses.

Today elf was sitting on the clock way up high trying to reach the numbers! The children thought we was very cheeky for doing it and climbing up so high. I asked if we should tell Father Christmas about the elf being so cheeky and they all agreed, I suggested writing letters to Father Christmas and a group ran off to write the letters, we put them in envelopes and the children wrote on these too we then put on our coats and off we went to the post box and posted the letters (not sure the sorting office will appreciate the blank envelopes lol) love spontaneous things like this the children were so excited let's see if Santa writes back !
