AnonyMouse_22106 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 What's your favourite story to read to children (3-4yr olds) which has rhyming text?
AnonyMouse_5970 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Charlie Cook's Favourite Book is my favourite. The children love Shark in the Park. 1
AnonyMouse_47736 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) My personal favourite is probably Some Dogs Do or The Gruffalo This might be of interest, it's a list of picture books that rhyme: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9611.Picture_Books_with_Rhymes Edited January 7, 2016 by Rob6692 1
AnonyMouse_1469 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 At the moment, our children love Stick man..............and they never tire of Spookyrumpus
AnonyMouse_55778 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Monkey Puzzle - I'm not sure who love's it most - me or the children!
AnonyMouse_19762 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 We all love 'Oi Frog' and 'One Mole Digging a Hole' :1b 2
AnonyMouse_23964 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Oi Frog (thanks for the recommendation on the forum!) and anything from Julia Donaldson. Also Shark in the Park. 1
AnonyMouse_19782 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Charlie Superhero Underpants by Paul Bright. Anything by Steve Smallman Poo in the Zoo - hilarious Sue Hendra books - Norman the Slug - Supertato Most things by Julia Donaldson, but not ALL 1
AnonyMouse_5970 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Most things by Julia Donaldson, but not ALL Yes, I agree. Most are fab, but some are not so great! (I'm just jealous of her enormous talent! ::1a )
AnonyMouse_22106 Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 Thanks for your input a few new ideas there - Shark in the Park is certainly one of ours for joining in with the repetitive refrain & rhyming at the top of their voices!!
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 oi frog! (can read it again and again!) 1
AnonyMouse_4562 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Which Julia Donaldson's don't you like, out of interest? My favourite is Room on the Broom. The children live Duck in a Truck too.
AnonyMouse_23964 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Thanks for your link Rob. Its reminded me of Hairy McClairy from Donalsons Dairy (must admit I like that one) 1
AnonyMouse_19782 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Cait just checking - is that a dislike of Superworm because I'm not a huge fan of that one, but one of my members of staff is, and I'm not a huge fan of Tyranosaurus Drip either.
AnonyMouse_22106 Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 I'm finding as I'm getting older that some books are getting really difficult to read to a group, as the text is all over the place - or is that just me?!
AnonyMouse_30128 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I'm finding as I'm getting older that some books are getting really difficult to read to a group, as the text is all over the place - or is that just me?! I loathe commotion in the ocean /rumble in the jungle etc......not sure if that's age or just good taste  However we have noticed that the children we now have (younger age and more eal/sen) are less able to access the more wordy texts (not unsurprising!) and I have even found myself reading things like dear zoo to the whole group to great delight....even from the more able children 4
AnonyMouse_53966 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Shark in the Park is a favourite at the moment, closely followed by the Gruffalo and Going on a Bear Hunt Kamal Bahra
AnonyMouse_43806 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Don't forget "Shark in the Dark" and "Shark in the Park on a Windy Day". Our children love then so much and asked for them at every opportunity so we decided to put them away for a while to preserve the sanity of the staff! Will bring them out again soon though!
