Guest
Hi Just wondered if you could tell me if it is a requirement that a nursery/preschool that is run by the school needs to follow the welfare requirements in terms of eg space, sharing toilets (children), policies etc. I know staff ratios would be. Thanks
AnonyMouse_5970
Yes, it must be. If the children are of EYFS age, then the welfare requirements apply.

Guest
...hmm..that what I mean...schools are a different kettle of fish and the government are asking schools to open nurseries etc but some of the buildings/classrooms would be unable to ensure things like sole use of toilets, free flow, sleeping areas etc
AnonyMouse_73
Yes schools do need to meet welfare requirements too. They don't have to have specific eyfs policies but policies for the school should be relevant. Not all things are a statutory requirement eg free flow, and not all PVIS can do this either for a variety of reasons.
AnonyMouse_22106
I would've said 5/6 years ago yes - but not so sure now, my main example being when school nurseries were first set up in my area schools were allocated either 13 or 26 places based on size of room, toilets etc and when parents didn't get into nursery each year the head would apply to have his numbers raised but was always rejected - but recently I've noticed with some of the schools allocated 13 places orginally have now started to take more children, but their rooms haven't changed.
