FSFRebecca Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 This is a topic that has been discussed several times previously on the FSF, on 30th June NHS told all health and social care providers to remove them from their settings - I have had a look at the online advice and found the following document. There is not a definitive ruling for the early years sector - but I'm removing all of ours! The Myth of “Safety Socket Covers” - unnecessary and a hazard! This was the alert sent out by NHS
AnonyMouse_13453 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Thank you! I've been saying this for years! 1
AnonyMouse_3735 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 I removed ours years ago.. staff were not happy until I explained why and at the time Ofsted told us we should have them.. I still did not have them in the setting, and had a similar explanation as in the article on site for anyone who questioned it..
AnonyMouse_8282 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Removed ours years ago. We do try and 'block' the ones not in use though - so room set up keeps most covered and out of sight/reach.
AnonyMouse_5970 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Yes, same as above. But really handy to be reminded that they're not really a safety measure. I'm sure there are plenty of settings out there still using them.
AnonyMouse_3139 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 (edited) We still use them! I've brought it up a couple of times but the response has been so emphatically no that I've left it, but, I've got the hall keys this year, so...☺ Plus, someone on fb just told me a retired electrician told her to remove just 2 weeks ago!!! AnonyMouse_40274 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 We removed ours last year too. Only knew as hubby was an electrician .I had to argue with Ofsted.I got hubby to talk to them who were satisfied after he told them the exact regulation. 1
AnonyMouse_19762 Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Something else to think about - dare I confess that I still use them  5
AnonyMouse_1469 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 well...................................after considering the report, I walked around my building and removed every one of the covers and binned them.Don't ever say the lady's not for turning 3

AnonyMouse_7120 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 http://eyfs.info/forums/topic/41644-socket-covers/?hl=%2Bsocket+%2Bcovers This was almost 2 years ago now, with the same link to the 'flawed' article.... Interesting to read again, and really we are still none the wiser, someone should just make the call for EY settings/schools as well. My name is Mouse and I'm a user ...at the moment :-/ 2
