EmilyTapestrySupport
Please note that this tutorial is about tracking for the old EYFS. For information about tracking screens for the new EYFS 2021, please click here. This tutorial will talk you through how to enter baseline assessments for children on Tapestry, you can then use these assessments to track children's progress throughout the year. To find the baseline screen you will need to click on the Tracking section at the top of the page (1), then making sure you are on the 'EYFS' section (2), in the 'Baseline Assessment' section click on either the 'Individual view' or 'Group view' button (3). Do note that the baseline or baseline period for a child can only be edited from the individual view. I'm going to start by looking at the individual view, so once you click on that button you will see this screen below, from there you will need to choose the child you want to set the baseline from the child drop-down menu. Once you’ve selected a child the assessment sheet will automatically appear. Near the top of the sheet, in the 'status' section, you can set the baseline period from the 'start date' (1) and 'end date' (2) sections. The default settings for the start date will be that of the child's first observation with an assessment, or if one hasn't been made yet, the current date. The default end date will be three weeks after that. You can of course change these to suit yourself though. If you then scroll down you will see it is much the same as snapshots. You will see the 17 types of assessments (3) and will be able to set the levels of development for the child in question. Depending on whether or not you've told Tapestry you want to see “Refinement” you will have the option to select emerging, developing, or secure. Any observations you've already made and published for the child will come up already filled in. Click 'show details' to see the observation/s. This can be overridden if you believe that the observation/s are not a true representation of the child’s ability. If you do override it, that score will stick - no other assessments you make after that point will contribute towards the score. When the assessment is completed to a level that you’re happy with, save it by scrolling to the bottom of the screen clicking 'Save Changes'. When this is done you will see a few changes. If you have added your assessments straight into the baseline (rather than letting Tapestry fill them in from your observations) they will come up with a little pencil (highlighted for this tutorial in the red box). This indicates that the score was manually inputted and no assessments within observations were averaged out by Tapestry to give the score you're seeing. You will also see that each assessment line will have been coloured in. These colours correspond with the child’s stage of development relative to their age group. Once you are happy with a child's baseline and do not want any further observations to contribute towards the score you can lock the child's baseline by selecting the 'Locked' tick-box (1) at the top of the page and then pressing 'Save Changes' (2). A child's baseline can be unlocked at any time if you do want to make a manual change. When you unlock a baseline you will see you are presented with two options: 'Keep assessments as overrides' (1) and 'Use Tapestry's latest estimates' (2). The first option will keep the baseline scores exactly the same as when they were locked (but will stop any future observations made in that period from contributing to the score). The second option will take into account any assessments that were made in observations since the baseline was locked (that are still within the baseline period) to calculate the score, so the values you see might change. When unlocking a baseline once you have decided which option you want to use for the scores you then just need to click on the 'save changes' button (3). You will find the options to export it as either as PDF or CSV at the top of the baseline. Go back to Main Tutorials Page
