We are a long established pre-school with an excellent reputation and a recent good Ofsted inspection judgement. A pre-school assistant is needed to start in this coming Autumn Term.

Applicants must have a minimum qualification of level 2 in childcare and education and a sound knowledge and understanding of the EYFS. Experience of working in a Early Years setting is preferred but not essential. Applicants must be able to adapt to new situations and be a quick learner.

Our setting uses a digital learning journal software, hence it is necessary that applicants have good IT skills, and be able to use android tablets. Applicants must have a high standard of written and spoken English; they must be physically fit, and able to contribute to setting out and packing away resources.

Applicants must be committed to their own continuous professional development and be prepared to attend training as required, including Statutory Training. It is expected that staff contribute to the whole group development by reading professional magazines/articles and keeping up to date with relevant changes and theories; it is expected that staff contribute to the groups self evaluation form. It is expected that staff keep up to date with new laws and regulations to support the group in complying with laws and regulations. It is expected that staff are familiar with, and implement group policies and procedures, following the agreed ways of working; and also contribute to the reviewing, and updating of policies. It is expected that staff contribute to the implementation of group Health and Safety practice for the wellbeing of staff, children and the public; this includes ongoing risk assessment and awareness throughout every session. It is expected that staff implement all standards as set out by the Manager.

Applicants must have awareness and understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding and will be expected to contribute to their personal safeguarding competency record. Applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check this position is dependent on the applicant having a clear DBS check.

The successful applicant will be expected to act as a Key Person for a group of children, which will require them to: teach, support and inspire children at play; employ appropriate communication strategies for individual children; complete daily written observations of each child, including photos/videos where appropriate; assessment of child observations; completion of Statutory Assessments; reviewing Next Steps; writing a report for each child; regular communication with parents/carers of key children; and provision of personal care for children.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the group Planning Cycle using knowledge of the EYFS; this will involve contributing ideas for planning for key children based on observations and assessments and evaluation of planning.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the group daily routines: setting up/packing away and to contribute to the cleaning and maintenance of: resources; equipment; furniture; environment.

Please be aware that the pre-school is only open in term time - 38 weeks of the year, and we are a sessional pre-school, hence the position is contracted for a minimum of 17.5 hours a week, over 5 days, with additional hours available/required to be worked according to customer demand throughout the term. This often makes the job suitable for working parents (who want to spend school holidays at home with their children) but it is not suitable for people looking for a full time, year round job.

The hourly rate is dependent on qualifications/expertise.
