It's Friday!

Been a hard week for me too.  Had a lovely week away in Devon.  Very relaxing and beautiful countryside.  Went back to work Monday to a very busy week. I have started trying to make the numbers work for Sept and it looks as though we may have to close some of the afternoon sessions.  Difficulty is deciding which ones.  We have a couple of parents who work part time so will try to accomodate them or lose them.  We have 10 going into school ( possibly 9 but that's a whole different story!) But only 3 to start.

Very interesting to see that we all appear to be 'in the same boat' for September :( it is a little comforting to me, as I had begun to think it might just be my setting

I agree with fm that 'term time' is not what parents need/want anymore - term time and part time hours (my setting) even less popular - I have traditionally had a lot of stay at home mums - but the Government's drive to get them all back to work is slowly changing this (to the detriment of the children in my humble opinion)

Started on the TDL at 7am this morning - go me :D - but 'gremlins' have conspired against me!

Mr S put his bowl of porridge into microwave - huge bang :o - microwave had 'blown up' - it is now completely deceased - took out electric and I lost the document that I was working on......

Restored power - trip switch - then the flippin' laptop wouldn't 'talk to' my printer - complete shut down was needed......

Anyway - time for lunch now - happy with what I have achieved under the circumstances and will get back to it after lunch!

Enough with the TDL - nowhere near completed - but have done the 'must do' list - off to my garden now!:)

Right- talk of TDLs worry me.  Should I have one?  I have a couple of little 'oh I must do that' type things whizzing in my head, but no definite TDL.

Just worked out that even closing for  two mornings and running on the lowest ratios we will be running at a £3000 loss per year.  I know it will pick up slightly over that year but OMG😥

One thing that worries me with your statement is..... are you paying yourself for working now? On a Saturday afternoon?   :o

What does link directly to my lack of TDL is the fact when I think deeply enough about it - many of the things could actually be done in September, so I shall do them in 'work hours' at the setting whilst we are quiet.

Like many others we are quiet in Sept, I think the birth-rate in general is low this year and possibly next year too. I believe it is/was due to uncertainty and unrest about Brexit and the future for many.

......That said if someone can write a best selling '50 shades' type book, we should be ok in another 3 years time!xDxDxD

I wish I hadn’t worked it out,  my 9 less in the school cohort doing a minimum of 15hrs per week ( half of those likely to be on more) over 38wks, even at our measly funding rate is an approx loss of 21K :o, I think there will be a lot of toil rather than overtime paid for training and staff meetings etc

I'm sorry people are having such a bad time - the knock on effect of the 30 hours is very wide reaching :(

Would any of you be prepared to write me a letter explaining your financial position as a consequence of the 30 hours? The APPG is holding the lobby day in parliament on 18th July and I am meeting some MPs to discuss this very issue. If you would like to give me the details - you can be anonymous if you like, I will try and meet with your constituency MP and pass your problems on. Alternatively, if you would like to invite your MP and come along yourself, FSF would be very happy to host you :)

Think about writing the letter - if you don't tell people, they won't know! If you do decide to write, will you let me know who your MP is too? (or if you don't know, tell me your post code and I'll look them up). You can email me directly on rebecca@eyfs.info

Rebecca, thank you but our current situation is nothing to do with the 30 hours.  It’s just being a rural group in a small isolated community with current low umbers of young families.  More and more retired people are moving into the community and a serious lack of affordable housing is also a major issue.  Just hope we can keep our heads above water long enough whilst we wait for more children!

We are the same as zigzag really,  the financial hole this year is the sheer drop in the next school year intake, we usually have almost a whole reception class left for the following yr when our this years leavers go :-(  but the difference we are seeing related to the 30hrs is  where the chn would do more than 15hrs a week but family and friends were doing the drop off/collections and holiday cover as parents didn’t have to pay them and they couldn’t get it f@%# anywhere else now they have the 30hrs they are taking the pressure off of family and doing shared care which they can then stretch/use in the holidays when we are closed...we will have to move with the times.

Hi Rebecca - thanks for the offer - I'm not sure that this is the '30 hour effect' for my setting - although this has, of course, encouraged parents to get back to work - have to accept that was what it was designed to do :bananas:

I could easily remedy my lack of numbers by allowing under threes to start again - but I really don't want to do that - I will wait and see how 'dire' my position is in September - I'm thinking there is still plenty of time for further enquiries :)

Well I'm not saying what I'm seeing! :oxDxD

Dear fm - please ignore these two - honestly they are so rude!

I think it's an absolutely beautiful dog poo with wings fairy :D

I can't believe that is Friday again - everything is moving at a million miles per hour :o

We have had a pretty good week - very busy and productive - noisy boys are getting noisier by the day - but we cope!

No TDL for me this weekend - I am First Aid training tomorrow (deep joy) - Sunday is definitely going to be spent 'chilling out'

Hope you all have the best of weekends :)

It’s scary isn’t it how fast the summer hols are hurtling towards us, our older ones are also getting louder by the minute...we’ve done our job and they are more than ready to ship out, and the younger ones are hot, tired and emotional and seeming to need a lot of micro-managing to get through the day ...water play and more water play is all that’s keeping everyone sane at the moment.

I’m off to the coast tomorrow with a friend for the day so a football free Saturday :-D

Have a good weekend too B| ☀️ 🍷
