We do a baseline after two weeks if they are coming in for a few days per week. After 6 weeks we do our first half term tracker.

we do pretty much the same, but our baseline is done with the parent's input, when they start, even when they say "oh yes! you can have a whole conversation with them" and it turns out you can't lol I record mine in red pen on the tracking sheet and then do my own assessment after 6 weeks.

We use parent information to create an 'on Entry' tapestry baseline, asking parents to assess against the 'What to expect when' doc, but only the relevant age band, our last ofsted inspector said we needed 'starting points' from day 1 (again depends on the inspector I expect), we then update progress at the end of each half term, we're trialling giving up on the statements and only assessing with bands/refinements.

We baseline using Tapestry - ideally within 2-3 weeks but depends how many sessions a child attends and how well they have settled. I am interested in the suggestion we should start with a baseline on day one - may look at a system to obtain parents information - we currently have an 'All about me' form which I pinched off here but I don't think it is specific enough to create a baseline.

Just remember that at some point between 2 and 3 you must do a 2 yr progress check. This is a statutory assessment. What it looks like is pretty much up to you, but it's a good opportunity to discuss child's progress with parents before completing a written summary.
