AnonyMouse_2995
Hello all What sort of duties do you allocate children at nursery, like helper of the day book person etc,or what system do you use.
AnonyMouse_5970
We don't do anything formal, just ask children to help as and when. E.g. preparing snack or washing up, putting new books out, sorting and pairing wellies, as well as the general tidying, sweeping up etc. Some children enjoy it more than others. Some ask to help, others need encouragement but usually enjoy the achievement.
Guest
We have a helper of the day for each key group, and they push the book box under after book-browsing time at group time/story, and move the visual time-table pictures, telling everyone what is happening next. They also get to be the line leader to walk to end room for home time (which saves a LOT of arguments!!) They have to make a mark by their name, which progresses to having a go at writing their name eventually, so it's a good reason for mark-making for a reason too. And they love to have a little responsibility, and it's good for confidence boosting. It also helps to show we all have a turn so it's fair. AnonyMouse_7120
We have 2 snack helpers each day, they help prepare and put everything out on the snack table, they have a laminated task list each with picrues to do things, wash hands, aprons in, clean tables, get the milk etc....they mark each task off as they complete them, by the summer term many of them hardly need any over seeing they just get in with it :-) Edited October 11, 2016 by Mouseketeer
AnonyMouse_30128
I think this is something that needs to be an in house decision. I don't find for our group that these 'allocated' jobs work well as we have such a variety of ages/abilities comprehension etc. however we are always happy to have a helper should they wish to....or if we feel it might help them develop.
