FSFRebecca Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Gill Jones, Ofsted Early Education Deputy Director, has written in Nursery World about the recent changes to the safeguarding requirements. It is a very useful and clear article - you don't have to be a subscribing member to read it so I have put a link to the article below. Inspecting safeguarding in the early years 9
AnonyMouse_19762 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 That is very useful - many thanks :1b
AnonyMouse_33773 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 At last some clarification. Thanks! Our LA couldn't answer me questions about the training requirements. The title of the Ofsted document is confusing: 'Inspecting safeguarding in early years, skills and education settings" 1
FSFRebecca Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 Nursery World get the credit on this one!
AnonyMouse_8282 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Nursery World get the credit on this one! Our LA advisor sent a us an email yesterday that is in line with this. Can I upload it? They do pay for our subscription- so I guess they like us to share....
FSFRebecca Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 That's up to you - I can't officially unless you ask them! 1

(goes away muttering about how much money the lea get from us and they can't even get this right.....mumble ....mumble     ) 7

AnonyMouse_16163 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Can I ask those preschools who are run by a voluntary committeee management, if their chair has been on a safeguarding course and is it written down anywhere that this is part of their role?
AnonyMouse_33773 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 So the Lead Practitioner for Safeguarding in a non-maintained setting doesn't have to renew ltheir level 3 child protection training as long as they gather up-to-date information from various sources and update policies and procedures - is that correct?
AnonyMouse_14268 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Can I ask those preschools who are run by a voluntary committeee management, if their chair has been on a safeguarding course and is it written down anywhere that this is part of their role? No, none of our committee have been on any courses.
AnonyMouse_51737 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Can I ask those preschools who are run by a voluntary committeee management, if their chair has been on a safeguarding course and is it written down anywhere that this is part of their role? I got my chair to do an online basic one and also another board member who is named as our safeguarding trustee, it isn't written anywhere but I asked them and they was happy to do it, gold stars lol
AnonyMouse_21879 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Thanks so much for the clarification. Our LEA says Safeguarding Leads need SLP 2 day training every 3 years and also have to go on the CP training too! And I asked for clarification about whether the SLP has to be present at all times and was told categorically yes when I had read it as they have to be available.
AnonyMouse_33773 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Our LEA says Safeguarding Leads need SLP 2 day training every 3 years and also have to go on the CP training too! Is it the EYFS or the LEA that decides how often? EYFS: "The lead practitioner must attend a child protection training course" "Taking account of any advice from the LSCB or local authority on appropriate training courses."
AnonyMouse_19782 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 It's not in my copy of NW which is 3-16th October yet the article is dated 13th October???
AnonyMouse_16163 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Hi zigzag, Can I ask if your Chair is the nominated person for your setting?
FSFRebecca Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 It's not in my copy of NW which is 3-16th October yet the article is dated 13th October??? Mmm - that's odd - I found it online, I didn't look in the paper copy
AnonyMouse_19782 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Wonder then if it will be in next weeks,or maybe they do other news stuff on line ..... something else for me to keep watch for ::1a
AnonyMouse_9650 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I shall be emailing the link to my LA safeguarding lead as on a refresher on Monday my staff were told policies had to be changed and at a DSL network last week I was told that deputy DSL had to do level 3 multi-agency (at great expense by the time you factor in pay for course, staff member and supply). We also have to do level 3 refresher every 2 years (although this may be LSCB requirement) which I will ask for clarification on. Truly there is enough paperwork as it is without adding stuff to the TD list that isn't needed 3

I have no issue with being made the person where the buck stops....but I am fed up with people further up the line telling me incorrect rubbish.....this worm is about to turn  3
AnonyMouse_33773 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I've spent sooo much time trying to get this one right for months. I've contacted the LA several times. No one has given me an answer or been able to pass me on to the correct person.
AnonyMouse_9650 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 This is where this forum comes into it's own with such useful information - many thanks to Rebecca for bring it to our attention methinks 3
AnonyMouse_14268 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Hi zigzag, Can I ask if your Chair is the nominated person for your setting? Yes, they are the nominated person now that I no longer can be.
AnonyMouse_16163 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 zigzag are you due a visit from Ofsted anytime soon, or have you had one a while ago?
AnonyMouse_12805 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) Can I ask those preschools who are run by a voluntary committeee management, if their chair has been on a safeguarding course and is it written down anywhere that this is part of their role? Ours hasnt, and no it isnt written down as part of their role, to be honest I wouldnt expect it of them. Now that I can no longer be the NP our Treasurer is. We were inspected last December. She was only interested in what training/knowledge the staff had. Edited October 15, 2016 by lynned55

We have to name our safeguarding committee member on our county committee audit form ( doesn't say it needs to be the chair) they do L2 (half day) our Deputy DSL does the same training as as the Named DSL, we also have an 'understanding your role' but I'm not sure if that's for new to role DSL, those that aren't confident in the role or all DSL & Deputy DSL
