What do you most enjoy about autumn?

Just musing really......

My first thought would be 'not a lot'.......but that's not really true.......

I love the colours of autumn

I enjoy cosy nights in front of the wood-burner - usually in my pjs by 8pm at this time of year ::1a

Have been outside this afternoon, well wrapped up, happily engaged in some grass cutting - hmmm - this might be another year when the grass forgets to stop growing

I like the change of 'menu' - we tend to eat salad, salad and a bit more salad through the summer, but do like the classic winter warmers that I am cooking now.......that reminds me must find that old slow cooker thread for inspiration!

Anyway - enough of my musing - better get back to the old TDL - hoping that I can get some of it done now before the start of half-term! :1b

TBH I'ma Spring gal. However, I do like the misty mornings which clear once the sun has got to grips! and yes I too like the change in menu. I prefer the cooler nights and as we sat in the garden at nursery today a good gusty wind took up and lots of leaves fell on us and scooped leaves along the carpark - it was just the thing to get the children inspired with a little song.

The forum seems to have gone a little 'spititual' lately - nothing wrong with that, brings a bit of perspective to things. I love Autumn, it's my favourite season. I love those crisp, frosty, bright mornings - when you can see your breath!!!!

When I dropped my son at the bus stop this morning (18 mile round trip) the sun was just rising over the estuary and the low lying fog was making it look so mystical, I just wish I had my camera with me, it was really stunning. Today has been a perfect autumn day, sunshine, not too hot or too chilly. Crunching through the autumn leaves is my favourite, and as I was doing this on my dog walk today I got to wondering just how many of our little ones get to experience this? My kids used to love it and I wish ratios would allow us to take the children out and about so we could do this. So, so much more enjoyable than shuck on a tablet or watching TV.

Oh absolutely - could you rope a few parents in for such an event?

The colours for me. I love those changes (like spring I love that too). Colder evenings but warm glistening days are very special. I love the shades of orange red and green, and I even like the smell of autumn!

I'm afraid I don't like Autumn, I'm very much a spring and summer kind of gal. I like to see things starting to grow and blossom - the first aconites and snowdrops heralding the start of longer days and warmth!

These posts are a lovely way to remember that life is about more than the work we do and needs to be celebrated.

I love the smell of Autumn, the sun through the ever changing colours and that feeling in the air..seeing all the enormous cobwebs in the garden that are rebuilt every night, some cover 6 feet gaps.. lighting the log fire and retreating inside on a horrid day, ( but still prefer warmer weather )

I've been pondering this question and while I love aspects of all the seasons autumn is really my favourite. I love the colours and crunch of the leaves. I LOVE conkers - each time you find a new one in all its glowing, shining glory is an amazement. I love those days when the air is cool and crisp but the sky is that deep blue you only get in autumn.

I love the first sight of a frosted or dewed spider web. I love the cooler nights and being able to have an extra cover on my bed (I sleep much better with something weighty as a cover). I love the kinds of food that fit with this season. I love going leaf kicking and mud squelching.

I enjoy the cosiness of fires and candlelight. I like seeing the beautiful tracery of the branches of trees becoming visible as their leaves fall (especially against the different sunsets).

Shall I go on?! I just love autumn - some people I know hate it because they see the year as dying - to me it is just snuggling up for a good long nap and I can enjoy all the wonderful things I get to experience now as well as having the reassuring knowledge that come spring those beautiful little fresh green leaves will start peeking out and unfurling again...

PS I'm even planning to decorate my house for autumn this year...

What a beautiful response young Froglet :1b

A super autumn day here today- Mr S and I have been clearing out greenhouses x 2 and the poly-tunnel and we have had a long 'sit' in the wonderful sunshine and made lots of plans for next year, wonder how many of those will come to fruition, we will see

I still need to clear some of my pots and borders - will do so tomorrow if its nice again.........

Autumn one of my favourite seasons , no sunshine can match the glow and warmth as the leaves change colour , the crunch of leaves beneath my feet , the conkers I find such a treat.

A gust of wind ,cold but refreshing , the musicality of the branches as they bend and sway , nothing beats an Autumn day.

Had a rare day off this half term with the OH went to Camden market and then walked across to Leicester Square via Regents Park , magical within minutes I was a child again , the smell and sights triggering all those memories

Whisper to me , when will you be back ?

Whisper to me , where will you go ?

As the north wind blows , your colours divine , somersault , tumble , follow no line

Red, yellow ,gold , warm , dry and wet

The journey you travel , your destination not yet met

Will you be there for a while more , let me wrap myself up , let me explore

Before it's too late and the branches are bare

Allow me my memories of Autumn once more .

Enjoy sunny day

Can you see it ? no where ?

Look closer it's over there !

I'm looking but I can't see , are you kidding me ?

I'm really not , go on , take a peek

I'm watching , I'm waiting , is there anything there ?

Take a step closer , don't be afraid

I'm moving closer now but still I can't see what or who .

Look behind you ............

BOO!

Wow!

The most incredible and beautiful weather here today!

We went out for an 'autumn walk' this morning and had the best of times playing in fallen leaves - we also collected several bags full to take back to our setting - lots of art and craft fun will be had in the coming days :1b

I spent three hours out in my garden this afternoon - would have been even longer but lack of light finally brought me back indoors - anyway busy, busy, busy grass cutting, general clearing and tidying and then tulip bulb planting - fantastic afternoon!
