any dyslexia in the family???? or colour blindness ???

anyway either way what I would suggest is that you do ONE colour until they have got that firmly embedded in their long term memory. Do not be tempted to move on too fast then do another colour but don't do two colours at a time (so avoid the this is green this is red scenario)

I think some children find remembering colour names particularly difficult, but they all get there in the end.

If we think about how many shades of each colour there are it's not surprising.

Focus on their interests, Always use the colour names repeatedly when around them. Never ask them to name a colour, but you can give them choices e.g. holding up the aprons would you like the red one or the blue one?

I agree. I think we can get a little hung up on the ability for very young children to name colours...you will notice they are not specifically mentioned in the development matters, which refers to experimenting with and exploring, but not actually 'naming' them.

It's quite typical for children to learn colour names even in year one, so I wouldn't be worried about this at under 4.

I recall reading some research that suggested that one reason for children learning colour names a bit later is the way our language us structured to say 'the green car' rather than 'the car is green'. So model the language in play this way round and see if that helps. But I'd certainly avoid 'what colour is this' type questions.
