Setting permissions for relatives

Recommended Posts

Once you have added a relative to Tapestry you are then able to set permissions and notifications for the relative accounts. You have a choice whether you set up permissions to apply to all relatives, or to set up different permissions for individual relatives. To help you decide how you have each option set, we would recommend that you take a look at this article we have written which covers different safeguarding and data protection considerations when adding relatives.

To add relatives to your Tapestry account you can use the links below:

We'll start by looking at how you can set your general user permissions for relatives. To skip to the section on displaying or hiding assessments from relatives click here, or for flags click here.

To set your user permissions you will need to go to the Control Panel by clicking on your name in the top right hand corner (1) and selecting ‘Control Panel’ from the drop-down menu (2).

Then select the 'User Permissions' option from the left-hand menu (1). Once you're on the User Permissions page you will need to select the 'Relatives' tab at the top of the page (2) and you can then select a heading from the type of permission you want to set (3).

After selecting a heading you will then be presented with a collapsible list where you can see how each permission is currently set (1). To then change a permission you will need to click on the 'Edit' button at the end of the row of it (2).

Once you have clicked on the edit button you will get a pop-up box from which you can choose the default option, permitted or not permitted (1). Then if you want to allow some users different permissions you just need to tick the 'set different permissions for some users' box (2). You will then see a list of relatives. You can then select whether you want to leave the relative as having the default option or whether you would like to specifically permit or not permit them to carry out that action (3). Once you are done you just need to click on the 'save' button at the bottom.

Assessment settings

You can also change whether or not relatives are able to view any assessments related to their child's observations by doing the following;

1. Accessing your Control Panel
2. Click on the 'Settings' tab
3. Click on the 'Assessments' tab

From there click on the 'Configure' button (4) next to any assessment framework you would like to change the permissions for.

If you'd like relatives to be able to see the assessment framework then tick the bottom box to display it to relatives, then press 'Submit'.

Flag settings

Similar to setting assessment framework visibility, you can also change whether or not relatives are able to view flags related to their child's observations by doing the following;

1. Accessing your Control Panel
2. Click on the 'Settings' tab
3. Click on the 'Flags' tab
4. Click to expand the category of flags

Again, just click on 'Configure' (5) next to a flag set that you would like to change the permissions for.

If you'd like relatives to be able to see flags from that set then tick the 'Visible to relatives' box, then press 'Save'.
