Tarting up Community Playthings furniture.

Recommended Posts

The sad news is that the local children's centre has been closed. The good news is that the resources and furniture have been shared around schools and other early years settings. I have really done well. Community Playthings table and four arm chairs, a drum, a pop up playhouse, and a brand new Maclaren double buggy.

Anyhow, the furniture could do with a bit of a tidy up. Is it sacrilegious to paint CP stuff? Should I really just sand and varnish? Or should I go to town with paint and stuff? Maybe let kids at it?

Feeling very lucky.

I read this..............and passed out...........................please, please, please don't paint it and certainly don'tlet the children paint it .......sand gently and carefully revarnish x

Wondered if Narnia would have something to say on this topic as soon as I read the title. Definitely sand and varnish.

I had two days of and the owner had covered our one genuine CP item in sticky back plastic - and all the staff said how nice it looked!

I was quietly fuming, and went straight home and told my husband (cabinet maker) and he went ballistic as he has been spending years caring for said item each summer holiday

It will look a real treat once the children get at a loose bit, we all know how children love to pick at stickers!

Aaargh! How could that ever look 'nice'? What sort of SBP was it? Coloured, mock wood?

Mind you, it reminds me of our house when we moved in.......................the previous owner had put fablon on the kitchen walls........half of each wall, lovely roses and the rest of each wall was pale blue tiles. I cannot tell you how much effort went into getting rid of that lot!!

Ode To fablon and sticky back stuff

I've got a garage full of CP furniture after being lucky enough to score from a closing down preschool. Anyone good at sanding?! DIY not my strong point!

Speaking of Darvell, have you visited? I went up there a couple of months ago and was really surprised to learn that there was actually a community in Community Playthings. Very enlightening!
