How to see attainment for groups of children

Please note that this tutorial is about tracking groups of children for the old EYFS. For information about tracking screens for groups for the new EYFS 2021, please click here.

 

For this tutorial, we will deal with showing attainment for groups in two different ways, the first way will show the attainment scores for individual children collectively as a group. The second way will show you the averages scores for groups of children where you will not be able to see the individual scores for the children within the group.

On each group view screen, the groups you will be presented with are all the pre-set groups that Tapestry creates for you e.g. boys, girls, children who are SEN etc. as well as any manual groups you have set up on your account.

We'll start be looking at how you can view attainment using the summative assessment screen

 

Snapshots – Summative Assessment Group View

We will start by looking at the group view summative assessment screen, which is one of the screens where you will be able to see the scores of the individual children within a group. To find this screen you will need to go to the Tracking tab at the top of the page (1) and in the EYFS section (2), in the Summative Assessment box, click on the 'Group view' button. 

 

 

 

Here you will be able to see the summative assessments for all children within a group, you can use the filters (1) at the top of the page to select which group of children you see on this page.

Age Band Tracker

The next screen you can take a look to view attainment for groups of children is the Age Band Tracker, which is also found on the Tracking tab, by clicking on the ‘Group view’ button in the ‘Age Band Tracker’ section.

 

 

 

You can use this screen to look at both progress and attainment, but as we’re focusing on looking at attainment in this tutorial we’ll just look at one term (1). This will show you where the percentage of a group of children have been assessed for each aspect for in this term (2). Like the summative assessment group view screen you can use the filters (3) at the top to choose which group of children you view this for.

Group Attainment Picker Screen

Now, we’ll move on to the screens which show you attainment for groups of children, without showing the individual scores of the children within the group.

The first of these screens we will look at is the group attainment picker screen. You can access this screen from the Tracking section by clicking on the Group button under where it says 'Pickers:'. 

 

 

 

Once you have selected a period you will then be able to see the average attainment for each group set up on Tapestry.

 

 

These figures are worked out as an average of all the children’s attainment scores within that group, a dash means there is no data for any of the children in that term. If you are not sure about how attainment figures on Tapestry are calculated, please read this tutorial here.

 

Group Comparison Screen

You can find this screen again by going to the Tracking tab, EYFS section, and clicking on the 'Comparison: Group' button .

 

 

 

As we’re looking at attainment and not progress I’m only going to select one term by using the ‘add snapshot’ button (1). You can then either select to view the data for one group of children, by clicking on the ‘add group’ button (2) or you can compare two different groups just by adding another group.

 

Here you will then be able to see the average months above actual age and the percentage of the children in the group who have been assessed as at or above their actual age, broken down by each aspect.
