Ideas For A Theme On 'passport To The World'

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. As you know we are busily rewriting our very dull schemes of work. What themes are other schools following?

Ours are... Somewhere over the rainbow, whatever the weather and passport to the world. Its the latter one I am struggling with! Does anyone have any ideas for this topic please?

We did passports at our pre-school. The home corner was an airport. One of our staff made an aeroplane from plywood, 2 sides strung on to chairs (very inventive)! We made cameras available to children 'to take pictures' from the 'aeroplane. The children made passports. Each week we concentrated on a different country. We got clip art pictures of that country for the children to add to their passport, eg Effiel Tower, onions, etc for France, we also got pictures of the Flag for each country we visited! We learnt how to say 'hello' and goodbye in the languages of the 'countries' we were 'visiting'. We covered all the countries that our children had connections with. The home corner was changed from airport, to ferry port (blow up boats with oars) and restaurants etc.

have some nice ideas for activities around the them of

Out and About or All around us and holidays with ideas for each area of learning which you may find useful.

Sounds like a lovely topic.

Good Luck

What about sharing some of the travels of Callum the FSF travelling bear. You may be able to get hold of him for your setting for the summer term?

What about collecting postcards and asking the children to get families and friends to send them from holiday destinations. The children could design their own postcards from the countries you are using each week.

Pack a small suitcase with the childen asking them which clothes and items they would need for a holiday to wherever, warm, hot, cold etc.

You can use this theme to teach sun-safety as well.
