Sneha Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 The Montessori Summative Assessment screen will allow you to add assessments for observations you have made of the child/children - without having to add a full observation as we understand that children may join the nursery/school already possessing knowledge and skills they have learnt at home. These assessments will not always require or justify a full observation to be carried out and therefore you will now be able to add these assessments manually. The screen will also allow you to view individual and group progress across periods via the colour coded refinements you have selected/named via the Control Panel (tutorial here). We'll start by looking at the individual view. To skip to the section on the group view, click here. Individual View You can access the Summative Assessment individual view by clicking on the 'Tracking' tab (1) and then select Montessori (2) and in the Summative Assessment section, select the 'Individual view' button (3). Firstly you can filter the data you see on this screen according to; child, year, period and Montessori area (PL/AEL, Sensorial, Literacy, Mathematics, Cultural/KUW). The key underneath your filters will show you the Montessori activity refinements you have named via your Control Panel (unless you are using the Tapestry default refinements as in the image above) in their abbreviated forms for the Summative assessment screen (2). Once you have made any required overrides and saved your changes, you will be able to export your results from this screen as CSV (a type of excel file) or PDF (3). After selecting your filters from the chart below you will then see it is broken up the Montessori area of learning (1) (and only one area if you have applied any filters to your results). In this case we are looking at the Summative assessments for Literacy in Spring Term 1. Underneath the area you will see the list of activities pertaining to each area here and if you click on the icon, you will be able to access the descriptor of the activity as-well. In the 'Previous Periods' column you will be able to see any assessments you have made for each activity in previous periods (3). If you hover over the refinement, you will also be able to see the period during which the assessment was made as follows; Therefore, in this example, for the activity, Insets for Design - Stage 1, Katherine Matthews was assessed as CI (Completed Independently) for both Autumn Term 1 and 2. If we go back to the initial screenshot of the chart, the 'Refinement' column (4) shows you the assessments that have been made in the current period or period you have selected (in this case Spring term 1) and if it says 'Not Assessed' this means that no further assessments have been made for this particular activity during this period. There may be instances where a period appears blank as in the image below - and this means that no assessment was made during this period but has been made in periods following after this. The assessments do not pull through to each term - so you are aware of which activities need to be revisited or planned for and if the child has not worked on activities in particular areas during each period. If you click on 'Show details' (5), you will be able to see which observations (if any) have contributed towards this assessment and/or if the assessments were added as manual overrides, as in the image below: (a) Here you will be able to see which observation/s contributed towards this refinement. (b) If you tick the box next to 'Show related EYFS assessments' you will also be able to see which EYFS assessments - if any - were also linked within this observation. These assessments will contribute towards the EYFS snapshots screens. So, that was the individual view, now we can have a look at the group view. Group View To access the Summative assessment screen - Group view - you first click on the 'Tracking' tab (1) and then select Montessori (2), Summative Assessment - Group view (3). The tab at the top of the page will indicate whether you are on the individual view or group view page (1). We are looking at the 'group view'. Please note you will not be able to manually add or amend results on the group view screen, this can only be done on the Individual view screen. Again here you can filter by Year, Period and Area (2). In this example we will be looking at 2017/2018, Autumn Term 2, Literacy. If you tick the box next to where it says 'Show previous assessment alongside this period's assessment' you will be able to compare previous period summative assessment scores to the period you are currently looking at (3). In the 'Children' section, you can apply as many filters for your results as required (4). In this example, I am filtering by Group and Key Person and sorting them by First Name. If you would like to clear your filters to re-select or amend your results, you can do so by clicking 'Reset Filters' (5). They key underneath the filters shows you your abbreviated refinements (6). The above example shows the Tapestry defaults, you can rename them as required from your Control Panel (tutorial here). When you scroll down you will see the list of all the activities pertaining to the area you have selected/filtered (1) and if you scroll along you will be able to see the names of the children according to your filters (2). According to the results, Gabriel Lopez was 'Introduced/Spontaneous Use' in Autumn Term 1 for the activity 'Insets for Design Stage 1' (3). If you hover over the refinement, you will be able to the period in which this assessment was made. Next to this result you will also see Gabriel Lopez is currently (Autumn Term 2) 'Working with guidance/repeated' for the activity 'Insets for Design Stage 1' (4). This thereby shows you the progress for this particular activity. As you continue through the year, you will be able to see more results for each period (for comparison or to view progress). If the refinement appears blank, this means that no assessment has been made for this activity in the period/s (5). If you wanted to export this screen you can do so as a CSV or PDF from the buttons in the right-hand corner (6). If you scroll down you can see examples of these.
