You can use the hashtag feature on Tapestry to tag posts (observations, memos, activities and reflections) with words/expressions of your choice. Doing so will allow you to find posts that you want to mark in a certain way quickly and easily.

All you need to do is put a hashtag then whatever term you want to use in the notes or additional information section of a post, for example you might want to use #CI for Child Initiated or #painting if you know you're going to want to refer back to all the posts that show that later on.

A tag can appear anywhere in the text box though, so you could put it at the start, midway through a sentence, or at the end. It doesn’t matter whether you use capital letters or not either, and you don’t need to be consistent, so it doesn’t matter if sometimes you do it one way and sometimes another. The word you use does need to be spelled the same though and you do need to have the # at the beginning. You also can't use spaces, so you could say #MakingRelationships but not #Making Relationships.

In this tutorial I will show you examples using observations on Tapestry.

If you’re making observations through the new app then you can use the notes section (1) or additional information field if you have this enabled (2) to input a tag. Please note, the additional information field is only available on the new versions of the iOS and Android app. For information about the new iOS app, please take a look at this page and for information about the new Android app, please see this one

When you look at a saved observation with a # in on the browser version you will see that the tag has turned blue.

You can click on that to be taken to a list with all other observations with that hashtag.

You can also search for specific hashtags using your page filters on the observations tab.

And you can see how many times each staff member has included a particular hashtag in observations from the staff observations count screen (found in the 'General' section of the tracking tab).

This feature will be on by default, but if you would like to turn it off, or you think you have turned it off and you want to turn it back on, you can do so from within the control panel. Just go to 'Settings' and 'Observations'.
