EYFS Snapshots - Highest/Lowest Summative Assessment screens

Recommended Posts

Please note that this tutorial is about tracking for the old EYFS. For information about tracking screens for the new EYFS 2021, please click here.

The 'Highest & Lowest Age Bands' screens that are available within the EYFS Snapshots section of the Tapestry tracking will show you the highest and lowest summative assessment a child has achieved for each aspect within the EYFS over the whole time they have been assessed on your account. You can view these individually or for groups of children.

Before looking at these screens, we would recommend you read through this tutorial, so you understand how the summative assessments are calculated on Tapestry. Essentially though, they are an average of a child's assessed age bands and refinements (if you have these enabled) for an aspect, within a term. This means that the screens won't show you the highest/lowest individual age band and refinement a child has been assessed as, but rather the highest/lowest average of their assessments.

You can find these screens by clicking on the Tracking tab at the top of the page (1), make sure you are on the 'EYFS' section (2), then in the 'Highest & Lowest Age Bands' box either select the 'Individual View' or 'Group View' option (3). I'm going to start by looking at the Individual View screen. To skip to the section on using the Group View screen, click here.

Individual View

After selecting the Individual View option, you will be able to choose which child you want to see this for (1) and whether you want to see the highest or lowest summative assessments, I'm going to select the 'Highest Age Bands' option (2), which just means the highest summative assessments.

Once you do this you'll be able to see a chart with each aspect listed in the first column (1) and then the period they have achieved their highest/lowest summative assessment in (2). The age band and refinement (if you have refinements enabled) columns will show you the child's actual summative assessment (3), for example we can see here that Abby has achieved the highest summative assessment of 40-60 Secure in the aspect on Making Relationships.

If you ever want to check what observations have contributed towards a score, you just need to click on the 'Show Details' button (4) and you will then get a pop-up box showing you this information. If an assessment was inputted manually this will also show up with a pencil mark next to it (5).

As with all the EYFS Snapshot screens that are in this chart format, the assessments will be colour coded to show you whether a child is at, above or below their actual age in a period. This is done by comparing their actual age (their age in the midpoint of a term) to their assessed age, please see this tutorial for more details about this. It's important to remember on this screen that the colour coding will be dependent on the period the summative assessment is for, which you can see in the second column (2), rather than the period you are currently in, which might be different.

If you wanted to change the screen to see the alternative option, which for me would be the lowest summative assessments, you just need to select this option from the 'Type' drop-down menu at the top of the page (1) and if you wanted to see a group view of either screen you can select the 'Group' tab at the top (2).

Group View

Once on the group tab, you can select to see the highest or lowest from the 'Type' drop-down (1) and if you want to view this for a specific group of children, you can choose this using the filters (2).

Then if you scroll down in the chart you will be able to see each child's highest or lowest summative assessment (1). If a child has a dash instead of an assessment, as we can see Molly has for Managing Feelings and Behaviour (2), this means they have no assessments at all for this aspect.

You can use the scroller bar at the top of the chart to move between the different aspects (3) and above this you can see a key, reminding you of what the different colours in the chart mean (4). The 'CSV' and 'PDF' buttons (5) will allow you to export this page.
