EYFS Snapshots - Age Band Tracker screen

Recommended Posts

Please note that this tutorial is about tracking for the old EYFS. For information about tracking screens for the new EYFS 2021, please click here.

In this tutorial we're going to cover the Age Band Tracker screen on Tapestry. You can use this screen in a number of ways to see different types of information for individual children and groups of them. I'll cover all of these in this tutorial, so without further ado, let's get started!

To access this screen you will need to be logged into the browser version of Tapestry, then go to Tracking tab at the top of the page (1),  and making sure you are on the EYFS section (2), click on the 'Group View' button in the section that says 'Age Band Tracker' (3). Don't worry that there isn't a button for an individual view, as you can still see information individually for children on the group view screen.

When you arrive on this screen you can firstly see the 'Filters' section. Here you can choose if you want to just view a specific group of children, rather than all children (1). If you are a larger setting we would recommend that you pick a group of children, as otherwise the data you see in this screen might look a bit overwhelming.

By default, the start and end periods will be the first period you have an assessment in and your most recent one, but if you wanted to change these, you can do this from the drop-downs (2). You will also see the option to include children's baselines in this screen is enabled by default, but if you don't want to see this, you can just untick this box (3).

Underneath these options you will see there is an individual chart for each aspect within the EYFS (1).For this tutorial I'm just going to focus on the aspect of Making Relationships.

Down the left hand side of this chart you will see all of the age bands and refinements in which children in this group have been assessed, within your start and end periods (2).

If none of the children in the group have been assessed in an age band and refinement that falls within the start and end periods, then this age band and refinement won't show up here.

Along the top you will see all your terms in which children have been assessed in (3). Again if none of the children have been assessed in this aspect, in a term, then that term won't appear here. The term furthest to the right will be your most recent term and you can use the scroll bar at the top (4) to go back and see previous years and terms. If you have selected to include children's baselines, you will need to move the scroll bar completely across to the left to see this.

In the actual chart you can see where the percentage of children are that have been assessed in this aspect, in a period (5). For example, in our screenshot, you can see that 80% of children that were assessed in Making Relationships in the Spring Term 2017/18, were assessed as 30-50 Emerging. These scores are taken from the children's summative assessments, you can read this tutorial for more information on how the summative assessments work on Tapestry.

Underneath the percentage you will be able to see the names of the children that were assessed in this age band and refinement (6). It's important to remember that this might not be all of your children as not all of them might have been assessed. The total will be 100% of your children that have been assessed in that aspect, in that term.

You can use the screen in this format to see an overview of where this group of children are in each term.

If you hover your mouse over one of the percentages in a term you will see that term becomes highlighted and the scores from other terms will be faded out. The names of the children included in the highlighted term will also be faded out. This will allow you to just focus on where this group of children have been assessed in one term. You can see in my screenshot that for the Spring Term 2018/19 in this aspect, 20% of the children assessed were 40-60 emerging, 20% were 40-60 developing and the other 60% were 40-60 secure.

If you then hover your mouse over an individual child's name you will see that now, all the percentages and the other children's names are faded out, allowing you to concentrate on an individual child and where they are in each term. If a child moves up between the age bands and refinements throughout the terms you should see their name moving in a diagonal line downwards, showing the progress that they are making.

So, that's the Age Band Tracker screen on Tapestry and the different types on information you can get from it!
