EYFS Dashboard screens

Recommended Posts

Please note that this tutorial is about tracking for the old EYFS. For information about tracking screens for the new EYFS 2021, please click here.

In this tutorial we will be looking at the overall EYFS Dashboard screen as well as the individual dashboard screens for thoroughness, attainment and progress.

Before looking at the screens, we would recommend you read through the below tutorials so you know how thoroughness, attainment and progress are calculated on Tapestry.

How EYFS thoroughness scores on Tapestry are calculated
How EYFS attainment scores on Tapestry are calculated
How EYFS progress scores on Tapestry are calculated

You can also use the links below to skip to a specific section of this tutorial.

  1. EYFS Dashboard
  2. EYFS Thoroughness Dashboard
  3. Assessment Overview
  4. Areas of Learning
  5. Child Overview
  6. Group Overview
  7. Staff Overview

I'm going to start by looking at the EYFS Dashboard screen.

EYFS Dashboard

This screen can be found by going to the Tracking tab at the top of the page (1), then select 'General' from the bar at the top of the tab (2), finally you will need to click on the 'Setting Overview' button in the Dashboard section (3).

Here you will firstly be presented with an overview of your setting (1), this will give you information about the children on your account and the observations that have been added. Just above this you have the option to filter this by a group of children, year and period (2).

Scrolling down you will see links to the EYFS, CoEL, Leuven and KS1/KS2 analysis details screens. You can click on these to navigate to each framework.

In this tutorial we will be looking at the EYFS dashboard, so I'm going to select the 'EYFS' option.

You are now on the EYFS Dashboard screen, here you will see an overview section for Thoroughness (1), Attainment (2), and Progress (3). Within these areas, you can see the top or bottom 5 children and groups with highest/lowest thoroughness, attainment and progress scores.

At the bottom of the page there are also links to the Comparison screens and the EYFS Statement screen. This tutorial talks you through the Individual and Group Comparison screens and this one talks you through the Statement screen.

Let's have a closer look at one of these overviews.

Here I'm looking at the Thoroughness overview.

You can firstly choose whether you want to see the children or groups with the most or least assessments from the drop-down menu (1). Then in the child (2) and group (3) sections you will see the 5 children or groups with the most or least assessments for the period you are viewing, depending on what option you have chosen. Remember we're just looking at thoroughness (the number of assessments) here, if you are focusing on attainment and progress this will show you the children and groups with the highest/lowest attainment or progress scores.

The bar chart on the left hand side will show you whether the group of children you have selected to view are trailing, satisfactory or good (4). If you want to change the period (5) and group of children (6) you are viewing this information for you can do this from the drop-downs at the bottom of the overview chart.

You'll notice that the scores you see for the children and groups of children, as well as the percentages within the bar chart, are colour coded. These colours are there to indicate whether this score is considered trailing, satisfactory or good. You can set your own ranges for what is considered 'trailing', 'satisfactory' or 'good', as well as change this terminology to best suit your setting by following this tutorial

So, that's the EYFS Dashboard screen, now let's look at the individual dashboard screens for each area (thoroughness, attainment and progress). I'm just going to focus on the Thoroughness Dashboard as all the screens within the dashboards are the same, obviously just showing you different information, apart from one screen in the Thoroughness Dashboard that isn't available for attainment and progress.

EYFS Thoroughness Dashboard

To access any of the individual dashboards you simply need to click on the grey ‘overview’ title bar, so here I'm clicking on the 'Thoroughness overview' bar.

This will reveal another five sections; Assessment Overview, Areas of Learning, and Child, Group, and Staff Overviews.

Assessment Overview

This section states how your assessments made for EYFS for the selected period and group have been distributed by area of learning and aspect. Remember, you can define the period and group at the bottom of this section.

By hovering your mouse over any of the pie chart section's, you will see the distribution of assessments within each area of learning in percentages. There is no similar screen available like this within the Attainment and Progress sections.

Areas of Learning

The Areas of Learning section will show you a bar graph displaying the average thoroughness, attainment or progress score for each EYFS aspect for the selected period and children (1). To the right, you can choose to see the aspects with the most or least assessments (2). (On the attainment and progress sections this would be the aspects with the highest or lowest attainment or progress scores). Underneath this you can see the aspects listed (3). You can choose which period and group of children you want to see this information for underneath the bar chart (4).

Child Overview

This screen shows you the same information as above, but instead of seeing this for each aspect, it shows you it for individual children. So, the bar chart shows you the average number of assessments (or attainment/progress scores) for the selected group of children and on the right-hand side you can see the children with the most/least assessments (or highest/lowest attainment or progress scores). Again underneath the bar chart you can change the period and group of children to see this for.

Group Overview

This works in exactly the same way but calculates the distribution of the assessments for groups of children, rather than individual children.

Staff Overview

This shows you the same information but with this screen it's important to note that it's not actually the number of assessments staff have made, but how many assessments there are for staff's key children. Too see how many assessments staff have made you can follow this tutorial.

As I've mentioned throughout the tutorial, you'll be able to see the Areas of Learning, Child, Group and Staff overview screens for all three areas of EYFS tracking - Thoroughness, Attainment and Progress.
