Phonics - Preaching About The Unknown!

Had to laugh. Have been very interested in all the recent debate about synthetic phonics. Read about it my local paper yesterday, where the journalist explained it as:

 

'the process of blending sounds together. For example:

s-t-r-e-e-t = street. "

 

Me thinks not!!

 

I'm for it in principle, with a bit of other stuff added in. But a lot of people not directly involved in education are gonna need a lot of training if it's gonna work, especially some parents. How often does this sort of stuff reach the parents as much as it should do?

It is about helping parents who say letter names, and blend differently and say the sound differently!!!

Has anyone purchased the new Promethean Software SPEED SOUNDS and what are your thoughts?
