Early Years Practitioner in Kawagoe, Japan!

We are a small family-run early childhood centre in Japan working mostly with children that speak Japanese at home.

We operate as if we were any early learning setting in the UK, except for the fact that we have a large number of EAL students. Compulsory education starts at 6 years old here, so we can make up for the language deficit with the extra year we have.

If you are creative, passionate about holistic approaches to early years and would thrive in an environment with no OFSTED oversite and all your time to be dedicated to the setting and children, please contact us!

We have 13 full-time (0900-1400) children from 2-6 this year and an estimated maximum capacity of 20.

We want to learn from someone familiar with EYFS, ITMP and using Tapestry. We use Tapestry mainly for parents to see what we are doing and to make report writing easier at the moment. We could definitely be making better use of it. We like to use aspects of many different methods including Montessori, Reggio, ITMP, Krashen, Suggestopedia etc. Anything that is child-centred and experiential.

We cannot offer bags of money, but we can offer a canvas for you to help shape an amazing environment and really make a difference. Our budget for a starting wage at the moment is around 250,000 yen per month, but we are a growing business and we will bend over backwards for the right team members. Rent is usually between 20,000 and 80,000 yen per month depending on how nice a place you want. 20,000 yen for a little box and 80,000 yen for a really nice place (still small, this is Japan after all) in a nice area. Japan has almost no street crime, one of the safest countries in the world and an awesome place to live. I (Dale-the owner) came for a year out in 2007 and never came back!

If you are under 30, you can easily get a working holiday visa for 1 year in Japan and if you wanted to stay longer we can sponsor you for a working visa.

No Japanese ability required, there is no Japanese used in the school during the day, the owner is British, all staff and most of the children speak English fluently.

We are located in a lovely part of Japan. Kawagoe is a rural area but only 45 mins to the middle of Tokyo. The school has some land in a protected woodland nearby with a beekeeper next door who also keeps chickens and ducks and speaks fluent English. We operate out of a converted sushi restaurant and the owner and his family live upstairs.

We can help you get set up with an apartment etc and give advice on living and getting the most out of your time here.

Really we are looking for someone who is prepared to give us at least 2 years to really make an impact, but even if you only want to come for a year and see how it goes, still feel free to contact us.

If you or someone you know may be interested, please, please get in contact!

Best wishes,

Dale Berry

I wouldn't normally reply to a recruitment post, but just wanted to say how well you sell your vacancy!  If I was looking for an adventure, I would jump at it!  I hope you find the perfect person.
