Setting up and using the VEYLDF framework

Recommended Posts

To be able to assess with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) on your account, you will firstly need to enable it.

To do this, a manager will need to go to the management area of Tapestry, the Control Panel. If you're not sure about the differences between the different types of staff on Tapestry, you just need to read this tutorial

You can access the Control Panel by clicking on your name in the top right-hand corner (1) and selecting the 'Control Panel' option from the drop-down (2). Once this has been done you just need to select the 'Settings' from the left-hand menu (3) and then select 'Assessments' from the drop-down (4).

Once you're on the Assessments page, you just need to scroll down to find the section for 'Australia'. In this you then just need to click on the 'Configure' button for VEYLDF.

After clicking on the 'Configure' button you will then be presented with a pop-up box where you can choose to enable the framework (1) and you also have the option to display it to relatives on your account (2).

Here you can also choose to include refinements for VEYLDF (3). If you select this tick box you will then see boxes for 4 different refinements. By default these will be automatically filled in with the refinements: none specified, sometimes, usually and always, but you can change these names if you want by entering a new one into the field for that refinement (4). You also need to give each refinement a short name with a maximum of 4 characters (5).

You can also choose whether you would like to include the VEYLDF Indicators (6) and the Victorian Curriculum Content Descriptors F-2 (7) when you assess with this framework.

When you're done, just remember to click 'Submit' (8).

Now that you have enabled the VEYLDF framework on your account, when you go to add an observation, you will see it appear in the list of frameworks that you have enabled at the bottom of the page.

You can add a new observation on the browser version of Tapestry by clicking on the 'Observations' tab at the top of the page (1) and then clicking on the '+ Add Observation' button (2). For more information about adding an observation on Tapestry, please see this tutorial

When adding a new observation on the browser version of Tapestry, you will find the section where you can assess the observation at the bottom of the page (1). If you've only got 1 or 2 frameworks enabled on your account then you will see this automatically open but if you have more than this, you will need to select the framework you want to assess with (2).

Once you select the VEYLDF framework you will then be able to select which outcome you want to assess the observation against (1). When you've selected an outcome, you will then be presented with the sub-outcomes and to assess with one of them, you just need to tick the 'Observed' box (2).

Underneath each sub-outcome you will be able to choose a refinement, if you have these enabled (3) and then select any relevant indicators (4) or content descriptors (5), depending on what you have enabled on your account.

Remember, in order to save an observation on Tapestry you need to add a title and children to it, once you've done this, you can save your observation from the buttons at the bottom of the page.

Now that you've enabled the VEYLDF on your account you will be able to start assessing your children against it!
