EmilyTapestrySupport Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Hi Weavers, We are delighted to announce the exciting release of our new iOS app! We have been working on a new version of the app for some time, which has allowed us to not only make background changes which will make it easier for us in the future to add features, but also make some great additions as well. Below you can see what some of the headline new features are for staff and relatives: Headline features for staff With permission, can add observations when offline With permission, can receive push notifications Can queue several observations for upload so you can start another before the previous one has finished uploading Can filter observations like on the browser version, for example to just see your key children Can filter children when adding them to an observation, so you can select whole groups or children from a specific group Headline features for relatives Can choose which account to login to, if they are registered with more than one setting Can save their password and PIN on a device and can use TouchID (the fingerprint scanner) or FaceID (the face scanner) to log in If enabled by a manager, can save pictures and videos from observations to their device If enabled by a manager, can receive push notifications Due to the addition of the push notifications feature, as well as a few other minor changes we’ve made recently, we have had to update our Tapestry contract. An email was sent out last week to all managers about this, but if you would like more information, you can take a look at our Contracts web page. As this is a change to the contract, it will mean that you will need to agree to it again. A manager can do this within the Contracts section of the Control Panel. The new app is a separate one to the original one, which means if you want to use it, you are not able to upgrade your current app to it, you will need to download it from the App store. You can find this by searching for Tapestry on the App store; the new app will be labelled ‘Tapestry Journal’ and will have a colourful logo, whereas the original one will be called 'Tapestry Classic' and will have a grey logo. Please see the screenshot below to see the differences between the two apps in the App store. As they are separate apps, you will still be able to use the original version until at least the summer, though we would recommend downloading the new one so you can access all of the great new additions! One of the features we think will be most popular, especially with relatives, is the ability to receive push notifications. The important thing to note about this is that before relatives and staff are able to receive them, a manager will need to permit them to be able to and they will also need to enable it on their account. The reason behind this two-step process is that push notifications involve sending personal information via Apple’s servers, which may be outside the EU and this information might be displayed on a device’s lock screen. Therefore, depending on the data protection policy for your setting, you may not want to permit this or only permit it for some users. This tutorial will talk you through how to do this. You can find more tutorials which will talk you through the new app and how to use the new features, on our main tutorials page in the ‘New iOS App’ section. We are also working on a new version of the Android app which we are hoping will be ready soon. This is currently in the beta testing stage, meaning there might be the odd bug and we are also still making changes to it. If you would like to become a beta tester for the Android app, please take a look at this page. If you have any questions about the new iOS app you can take a look at our FAQs page or you can contact us by emailing customer.service@eyfs.info. We hope you are as excited about the new app and all the great new features it includes as we are!
