Guest
We did this a little while ago as part of out 'animals' theme. We took the children to the farm and brought along a few disposable cameras and encouraged the children to take pictures of things that were of interest to them. We then developed the photos and got the children to make pages in our 'farm book', where they stuck the photos into a book and write 'captions' underneath, giving details of what the photos were showing. We looked at stories such as 'Farmer Duck' (really obvious, I know!) and we made flashcards of the different animals. You could also sing (obvious again!) songs along the lines of Old Macdonald, but maybe change the animal names. You could adapt the story of Noah's Ark to look at farm animals in particular and then maybe encourage the children to make their own Noah's (farm) ark. This is a great junk modelling activity! You could ask the children to plan, and construct their own farm using junk, the planning could be done by writing down what they will need to use etc or drawing pictures. These can also be added to the farm book. Still along the creative lines, you could get the children to make farm animal masks. ELC do some good listening game CD's although I'm not sure if you can get one specifically for the farm. There's making movements as different animals or setting up the role play area as part of a working farm with 'costumes' that allow the children to pretend to be a milk maid (not sure what a male maid would be called!), a farmer, etc. Running out of ideas now as it's late but will have a think tomorrow, by which time, you'll have bundles of other ideas from others! Guest
We put a little bit of white paint in the water tray to make milky water. We had different sized bottles and role played delivering milk. Often on children's tv you can find out whrere milk comes from or information books to support the activity
Guest
we put soap flakes mixed with water and brown paint in a builders tray to create 'mud' then put in some farm animals. The children thoroughly enjoy getting messy!!
