AnonyMouse_79908
How are others managing their settling ins for September? We would normally do most of ours in July but we aren't allowed any visitors in the setting at the moment. Worried it's going to be very complicated with so many newbies starting in September and the restrictions in place because of COVID. Also don't want to delay fees coming in either. We normally have parents stay with their child for an hour during the session and we offer a couple of those sessions. Would be grateful for any suggestions! AnonyMouse_5970
We are a day nursery with children starting throughout the year. We have started settling in new children who have been waiting for us to open again. We are doing this all outside, with parents staying and adults social distancing as much as possible (as well as the other measures we have in place such as using sanitiser etc) We are very thankful for the good weather which has enabled us to do this. Of course, it isn't the same, but children and parents are getting to know their key person in just the same way and this, for us, is the fundamental part of settling in. AnonyMouse_14268
We have lots of children due to start in September. I have set up accounts on Tapestry for these children and have added loads of photos of the setting (pre Covid), a video of the toilet area and photos of the staff for them to look at. Depending on the situation in September but my guess is we will still not be allowing parents and visitors into the setting so there will be no option of settling in with parent sessions. I will be doing it the old fashioned way, taking the child from the parent and settling them. Can’t see any other option and it’s what the school leavers will have to do when they move up to school as there are no transition sessions allowed this year. I will be staggering all the new children starting though so we are not overwhelmed!
AnonyMouse_43806
We are planning to be already set up 2 weeks before the start of term and then invite new starters in a couple at a time, socially distancing with parents, to have a little visit and meet their key person, but explaining that it might not be a straight away start. Also hoping to settle back some small groups of returners in this time before starting back at the start of term. Staff will have to be prepared to work in the holiday but then they have been on full pay since March.
