We are going to be have messy play in playschool for the next two weeks.

I was thinking about letting the children tear up egg trays and adding water, then getting them to mould it into pastry cutters, do I need to add some wall paper paste (non fungal) to make it stick together, when they have dried out the children could paint them before taking them home.

:) I would add paste or if you don't have it, PVA glue to help it stick together. :)

Egg boxes will work without adding paste or glue but the glue would make it stronger or you could try painting the model with pva after its been decorated. I did a workshop with my own children (when they were much smaller) and the lady used a kitchen blender to break down the paper with added water and I still have the bowl my daughter made :)
